I'm running my 300SX at 42 foot pounds. Feels like a good balance, more stable in braking bumps and the softer turns, yet pivots well enough.

Will this be excessive for well lubed bearings?

If I'm not mistaken, the torque spec in the service manual for my 350 SX-F is like 10 foot pounds. I usually torque it to 10 and then hand tighten just a little bit more, but nowhere near 42 foot pounds.

D'oh, I was in a rush and didn't state the purpose. Increased stability with some balance with turning.

IMO this is more of a feel thing rather than a torque thing. Personally I have mine really light to where the bars fall with a slight push. All your doing is making a poor mans steering damper. Just make sure your pinch bolt is torqued right and roll with whatever feels best.

Exactly, tighten to the feel you prefer, not to any specific torque. You're just preloading the bearing. Add more for the "poor man's steering damper". But not so much that things feel notchy when you turn the bars.
