Picking this up from a friend this weekend. Should be an interesting one. I think my favorite part is the 91-93 kx forks those will be for sale if anybody is interested
for now just going to go with a oem look, silver rims, stock graphics etc
Interesting project, will follow!
Those clamps do not look like KX, any stamps on them? Or could it be a WP fork?
Cool have no clue, I won’t be picking it up until Saturday. A friend of mine found another bike he has to have and wanted it gone so I offered him 500 bucks and he jumped at it.
Upon further inspection I found that this bike came with a very new looking set of clutch plates and v forces reeds as well as a set of terry cable triple clamps
can anyone here tell me more about these clamps are they very good and should I go ahead and clean them up for re use or would I be better off with a set of applied or stockers??
Over the last few days I got some time to get all the earrings out of the cases, clean the cases up and start tearing the chassis down a little more. This bike deff has quite a few hours on it. Now I’m thinking a full frame up is in order with new frame paint, some swingarm restoration etc. this build won’t be too amazing but I’m going to do the best I can to bring it back to a reasonable level of oem beauty
Thinking about also having the cases done but I don’t want them super shiny like what you would get from vapor blast, any recommendations??
Also was able to get the cylinder ready for my trusty machine shop man as well as an oem crank and wossner con rod kit!
I don’t have pics of the crank and rod at the moment but here’s a pic of how the chassis sits as of now

If you need a nice new rare shorty let me know 👍🏽
My brother had that one on his 98 YZ125, I was like 8 or 9 and I still remember just how crisp and responsive it sounded and with that silencer and my dad working out the jetting.
Yeah they are really a nice performing shorty and they look really good too 👍🏽
I’ve got the YZ 46mm kyb forks as well if you need them
Dude I want that
Okay it’s been a bit so I thought I would update this.
I scored a set of some showa 48mm twin chamber forks, triples, front wheel and front brake for the low price of 150 bucks and a rc car!! They even seem to be in great shape but still going to open them and go through anyways, new springs bushings seals ETC….
I haven’t really made any real progress though but was able to install the transmission bearings, order gaskets, crankshaft bearings and all the seals. ATM I’m waiting on my machinist to call so I can get engine parts in and the frame into powder coat. Hopefully things will be getting exciting in a few weeks.
I also ordered a FMF fatty lastnight as well so hopefully I can score that Ti2 to go with it. I will upload a few more pics if my phone allows lol
Not much progress like I mentioned but here’s a sweet pic of my 450! Thinking I may go for a similar look on the 125 with the 2000 YoT kit from Nstyle
I went after this swingarm with a set of buffing padsfrom pryme Mx and a dremel. Honestly I’m not super stoked on how shiny it came out or the finish, so now I’m thinking a glass bead blast might be more what I’m looking for just to clean it up and get it looking decent without too much shine.
Thanks to @cclay47 this build just got a little sweeter!
I was able to get the head and crank with wossner connecting rod kit sent out to MotoTech of NH a real nice guy named Brian lambert will be taking care of it check him out at mototechnh.com as soon as I get that crank back I will begin assembling the bottom end
currently I’m waiting on a bench top blasting cabinet as well as some glass bead media to really get some of these parts tuned up and looking good. Sorry for such slow progress but I really want this thing to turn out well
Nice! Will sound so good.
Got done what I could Sunday. All bearings and transmission installed and the Honda triple clamps mounted. Thinking I’m going to wait on powder coat until this winter because I’d really like to ride this thing a little this summer and fall. Should be interesting at 280lbs (that number is dropping tho!)
next up is suspension servicing and heavy duty springs for my corn fed self
As you can see I did finally “finish” the build however, I’m not happy with the fit and finish of the triple clamps. Looking for an option other than these Honda clamps
I had the bike posted for sale briefly but quickly decided I would regret the sale more than I would appreciate the money.
I’m pretty impressed with how the showa forks perform though, as well as the rest of the bikes performance.
I guess we could call this phase 2?
