Those LL mini class results show how dumb it is the OEMs put so much $$ in the am scene…how many of those names do you recognize today? How many talented people are out there that just didn’t get a shot or the rug was pulled from them too soon?

I have the exact opposite takeaway from those results. Six guys from that class went on to get factory rides, and another six guys made it to support teams. Justin Cooper was a 13th place guy while attending public school full time and eventually his talent was recognized and he became a 250 champion and 450 factory rider. The cream eventually finds its way to the top. I would have guessed the odds of any particular rider in a given Mini Sr class to reach a factory or support team ride would be far worse than 12/40.

I can see your counter point and hadn’t considered that so appreciate you pointing it out. But would also question the length of those rides and some of the examples were not the ones receiving factory support at that time.

I don't think it's fair to discredit his competition when that was the cream of the crop at the time. Just because they didn't make it in the pro ranks doesn't mean every kid on that gate wasn't very fast and capable of making a career racing dirt bikes.

Story time... I was taking pics at a Milestone Straight Rhythm Ride Day (2014 I think?) and I just so happened to take this picture of Justin and Tyler.

Fast forward to Tyler's memorial ride day at Glen Helen and I see this:

Fast forward a few years and I'm at Wyvern taking pictures of Justin Hoeft when he was on that IB-Corp team and I walk up to Darrin (his dad) and say Hey you know that picture of Tyler you used at his memorial? and he said yeah and I said I took it! and he said YOU TOOK THAT?! and grabs me and hugs me and picks me up and says THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.. Man I've shot on the floor at Anaheim, walked next to Chad Reed as he walked to the podium after his come from behind win at A2, but seeing how happy Justin's dad was knowing who took that shot of his kids that day is the coolest moment I've had being a photographer. With all that being said, the Hoeft's are good people and I'll always believe in Justin's talent.

Man that picture of Darrin is exactly what anyone will see anytime they run into him.

Awesome shot you got of the brothers. I didn't know you took that.

I would say the opposite. 12 years later and 20% of the field still has active SX licenses.  Not sure the percentage of them that had their cards at any point

Wow, that’s cool to know the back story in some of these guys 👍

Justin was fast, and had a TLD ride, but got pretty messed up when his brother died.

 His dad was fast too.

A non big name winning doesn’t surprise me at all. Watch thd last 3-4 yrs of the race . There’s a ton of Cal. Riders that hv front pack speed. And there’s a lot of riders around the country that could do the same. Look at 125 Pasha pro 50+ a Wi. Rider that I never heard of in 2nd. I hope he races the 125 class in Wi. This yr because it’s stacked and I want to race him. If I can make any money out here. I would hv been top 3 maybe lead for a bit.  Well maybe not my 125 is stock bore.the big hills I think a 150 woukd  pull a 235 easy.  In 97 I ran down a podium 125 sx rider on a cr250 in a late practice @ Millville.
on a stock 95 yz125 in the whoops. He went 9-9 in thd 250 national. But I was in Chicago getting a 53ft flatbed curtain side trl lded with steel going to Iowa. Then reld going to Phily. 2 mornings ago I parked 30 mi from redbud & the rain turned to snow. I,m just n. Of nyc now. A biden function had the rd shut  down. You could only imagine how bad traffic was. I had to un do the trl & restrap & add some more Thx to a Dick . That cut threw the end of a median split threw the grass then slides into a diff rd I was in . Then panics & slams his brakes on. I saw the Moron doing it so I get off the throttle & brake a little to leave a gap for him to fly into. Just from light steady breaking the solid steel pipes slid forward . You stab the brakes & the steel goes through the cab & your dead. Sorry but I will never do that because I would kill 40 more people in cars .not that anyone is trying but 1 life vs 40 + that’s an easy decision. At redbud a rider from thd UP of Mi. Went 2-2 in 50a at redbud big vet race.  I never heard of him . Who would think a top 50+ rider in the world would live there.
