Can you get a big bike in the back of the short bed? Diagonal? Thoughts?

Have the chance to trade in way above what I paid for my current rig and the 22 frontiers have my eye.

I don't have experience with this specific truck but for sure, diagonal. I am sure that you will have to leave the tailgate down. A hitch carrier is an option as well.

From what I have seen a bike will just fit in an F150 5.5 ft bed diagonal (corner to corner) with the gate up. I think the Frontier has a 5 foot bed and there may be a 6 foot option. I think you can just load it straight in with the gate down? It should fit however it does in a Tacoma or Ranger. They have 5' beds too. There are pictures online even in the Vital member profiles.

There is a you tuber who managed to get a full size bike in a Ford Maverick, and I think that bed is 4.5'.

Yes sir. I love my fronty, easy to load bikes, can handle being jumped, revved etc. *2018 not the newest gen that just came out

I have the short bed F-150 Supercab. You’ll have no problem getting one bike in there diagonally with the tailgate up.

Haha thanks dags. Don’t think I’ll be doing much jumping but hey - good to know it’s possible.

Whatever you do, do not get a new Tacoma.
Total pieces of shit. They do not drive straight, they all pull to the left, which happens to be into oncoming traffic. The shifting is bad, way down on power too.

I have a new Ranger Tremor crew cab and I have to run tailgate down. Bike straight back you can't even run a bed extender.

I did however cross shop the new Frontier, and you can get them with a crew cab and long bed, just not with Pro-4x package. I also am an extra large human and didn't fit in the Frontier cab very well.

I have a 2018 and my bike fits upright or diagonal with the tailgate down. The only problem is the backup sensor goes nuts when reversing with it down. Good truck though, good gas mileage and easy to load.

I’ve been interested in the Pro-4X because of the recent Lease Special that’s been airing on TV. I contacted all dealers in a 250 mile radius of Las Vegas, they either said they were not participating or they had a huge markup from MSRP. Here is just one of the responses I received…

Hello Don,

We have the Pro-4X, However with the current market you will not be able to get that lease special.

Would you like to come see the truck?

I think you can only get them in the SV trim and msrp at 41k ish. I just want the S trim cheap as possible.

Exactly! They look great but be ready for some problems and do not be surprised when the dealer says “that’s normal for this vehicle.” You’ve been warned. Good Luck!

How about towing a 6x12 enclosed? Rated for 6500 lbs - think it would be well under that.

If you even talk to dealerships about technical issues on trucks you’ve already lost me, I can’t help you understand at that point.

The fact that people even compare Toyota to Nissan any more is outright laughable, the brands quality died 10 years ago and their main focus is and has been financing anybody with a pulse and a credit score under 300.

Fits good with two bikes no problem and have also had my daughter's 80 in the middle facing backwards.

2 bikes easily. But tailgate down. Cannot lift gate with one diagonally unless you can find a longbed (scarce). Most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned. 2010 Frontier Crewcab SE. Have 312,000 miles on it. Never had an issue. 21 mpg unloaded. 18mpg loaded with 2 bikes and gear. Love this truck.

May we know what your target budget is? If your buying new I’m assuming it’s on the higher end.
Honestly the small trucks just don’t deliver. You sacrifice room and power for fuel mileage and you don’t get it. Only advantage is generally lower price and maneuverability.
I’d go with an 18+ f150 at whatever trim/mileage you can afford. 3.5 ecoboost and 10 speed is a rocket ship, 22mpg, and plenty of room.

Better off getting an older truck at this point. 2008 or earlier had way fewer electronics to fail on any vehicle. Good luck getting parts now and into the future for any newer vehicles.

I just got a 22 Frontier S 4x4 with technology package. Haven’t loaded bikes yet but have seen it done a bunch. So far I’m really liking the truck. I liked it better than the Tacoma and Colorado on test drive. The engine and transmission combo is really nice.

I’m trying to stay around 34. Which is still insane in my mind. I hate buying vehicles I really do.

They are sweet looking. What did you end up paying for it? That’s the trim and configuration I’m looking for.

Yeah I love the styling of the truck. It came out to $36k. They got me for a $900 dealer markup. They were originally trying to get $2900 over. Crazy times.

Depending on your area you could get an f150 Lariat with around 50k miles for that price. Just something to consider. I know some people prefer new over higher mileage.
As far as your question, I had a Tacoma and the only way to get bikes in was with the tailgate down. And if you put them in straight not angled it would be right on the edge of the tailgate. Like yzf916 picture shows. The 5.5 short bed f150 will fit 1 bike corner to corner with tailgate up.

I had a step side ranger a long time ago, I’d always put the bike in diagonally, then put the rear wheel on the bed railing, shut the tail, then push the rear into the corner. Just a thought!

Most mid-sized trucks with a crew cab (Tacoma, Colorado, Ranger, Frontier, etc) have 5’ beds. With a 5’ bed you can fit a bike with the tailgate down, or on an angle with the tailgate halfway up (w/ cables hinged on the latch stud). These truck models usually offer a 6’ bed option, but they’re a little harder to find, and IMO, they look a little disproportionate. Full size crew cab trucks (F150, Silverado, Tundra, etc.) have 5.5’ beds can fit a bike diagonal with the tailgate up.
