We got a new 2016 Tacoma in December and we have been taking it out almost every weekend. She gets really bored so she thought about getting a quad. I grew up riding dirt bike and quads were for old Men, girls, and night riding after sitting around the fire got boring.
I started looking around Craigs and found a few hits and many misses. We had a friend who has 4 daughters that bought 3 midsized quads and a 230f. They had a Honda Sportrax 250ex, a 300 Raptor, and a 250 Suzuki something. The Sportrax was the one I always rode and I liked the longitudally placed engine, the shaft drive completely enclosed in the swing arm, and the oil cooler. Almost nothing to break.
I found a nice 2002 Sportrax 250ex for sale in San Bernardino. Picked it up tonight for 1500. It has front and rear DG aluminum bumpers, Big Gun pipe, very clean, and current registration. Many 250exs in worse condition were listed for 2000 to 3000. For 13 years old, the plastics are scuffed and the underside of the frame is almost scratch less. The guy also bought a real Honda seat that was manufactured in November! Those go for around 105 bucks and I'm sure he bought it at a dealership....
My wife was really excited. We are going to go to Chaparral on Saturday morning to get a helmet for her, some fluids, and a new gas can. Then to service it that morning and take it to Stoddard to teach her to ride. I know it probably doesn't need service, but just to make sure.
It's got a Green Sticker!
Rolled it in and set the parking brake. Never done that before with a bike....
It's very clean for 13 years old.
As for me, I will be driving the truck until I get my 250 ready to ride. I stopped riding when my health insurance was dropped in college. I haven't ridden since 2010 but this has sparked me to clean the carb and drain my gas tank on my 2002 yz250. It's a green sticker, as well. Also has a fresh bottom end installed around 2008 after it blew the shim on the crank. Maybe has 10 hours on that bottom end.

The Shop
Don't know if you frequent Tacomaworld forums, but lots of people have issues with trans fluid being low on the automatics. Don't know if yours is having any shifting problems, but it's worth having it checked. My 2016 was 1.5 quarts low from the factory.
Not sure if you will find new tires for that price. We just put new tires on it that she likes Made in USA "ITP Blackwater" Maybe find some used tires or take offs from a dealer?
She won't beat on it but I bought a Honda because it will last with simple oil changes
Pit Row
I see a Subaru Forrester in your future...
Nice purchase for your girl. I've been wanting to get my girl something to ride
Thx
We've done 5 day trips to Ocotillo Wells since December and every time I roll down the mountain and see the desert I get a shit eating grin that doesn't go away for days because I get to ride with the 2 most important people in my life.
So go ahead and post the gay-quad memes. I'll be making memories with my girls that'll last a lifetime.
My girl loves hers! congrats dude!
Congrats on the new toy for your wife, have fun sharing riding together!
Post a reply to: Just bought the wife a bike! (a quad actually) ...with my wallet
