I lived in Socal for years and the stereotypes only apply to a little circle that you can draw around Hollywood. It's a great state with great people and so much to offer.
Barcia's place is very nice for retirement or maybe if you are a Pro MXer. But I'll stay where my skill set results in a 6 figure paycheck, even if homes do cost 4x that.
If it was just a little circle then the state wouldnt swing so far left. Its sad, my cousin and i were watching the original on any sunday last night and he made the comment that that california doesnt exist anymore and for the most part it doesnt.

Anywhere from Naples to Port Charlotte just on the outskirts of town. I look on my Zillow app. I have been looking right where Charlotte harbor ends to the east. Found some great deals. I have lived the city island life for ever and we want a small farm, a lake and track. It's just nice being so close to my rentals and the boat ramp but I spend more time in lakes these days anyway.

God, Naples is a town that values went into the shitter fast.

I bought one home in Burbs for a investment and one under construction in a new golf subdivision out in the everglades back in 2006, got out of them both by the skin of my teeth when the market went to hell in 07.

Nice town, but damn talk about a boom and bust.

Not all towns in Cali are the same. I travel alot and hear many outsiders to Cali talk shit then I ask them what they know about where I live and its generally zero. Like you they talk out their ass.

OC, and specifically Newport Beach, Newport coast, CDM, Laguna Beach, might as well be its own state or country. Yes some places in Cali suck and they are not far from us to the north, but almost all places in Ga sucks so suck it. Tongue

Our economy here, in 10 mile radius of my house is larger than your entire state and probably by a factor of 5X. You say we are being "disarmed"? Funny, didn't you hear even Mitt Romney tell Obama in the debates - " Dont worry about the rich, they will do just fine." Now I'm not rich myself by any streach, but lets just say I'm doing fine and expensive housing is only relative when you consider the opportunity availiable to me and my family here. Yes I have lived in other states. Colorado and Virginia. I cannot imagine living in any other place as a squirel just trying to get a nut for a better life for my family. Even when I travel for vacation to other places I can feel the lack of opportunity for some reason. Call me crazy.

Its cool if you want to live in a small quaint tree lined old school town, but when thats the only major draw to your area there is a boredom factor of 10 and an opportunity factor of 0. Being covered in a thin layer of sweat all the time is not my cup of tea. BTW we dont even have one mosquito here in Newport that I am aware of. I think they are extinct.

Schools? You say ours sucks? Maybe in L.A. but people with money dont let schools suck. Thats the funny thing about money. The public school my kid went to for elementary (Alderwood Elementary Irvine Ca) is rated a 10 out of 10 on
www.greatschools.org and is a nationally top ranked school. Your school doesnt even have cup holders...(Dodgeball joke)

The Elementary school in your town (Elm Street Elementary) is rated a 6 out of 10 on the same site.
The Newnan HS in your town is also rated a 6 out of 10. The dentist must keep busy with all the missing teeth?

My kid now goes to one of the best private (conservative) schools in the nation until 8th grade then off to Newport Harbor or CDM HS (depending on sports) which is a 9 out of 10 rating. Speaking of sports.... Come bring your athletic teams into the OC and watch them get demolished. Do you even have club sports in Newnan? The Newport Beach SlammersFC is the top college recruited Soccer Club in the nation supported by Nike, and my kid also plays Volleyball for one of the best clubs in California in Laguna Beach which also happens to have a world ranked beautiful beach according to Travel Channel. None of that would happen in Mosquito ville.

Politics?
Orange County is vastly Conservative Republican Business owners and professionals everywhere, so you can take that D-bag Liberal comment and shove it. Newport Beach and OC are extremely Conservative and deeply resent the idiot government in Sacramento and Washington.

Im assuming you live in Newnan to work for Yamaha? The only other places to work there seem to be Cargill, Kmart or Petsmart. Yamaha is killing it these days. Tongue I used to live behind Yamaha in Cypress Ca, down the street from Tiger Woods, (yes I know him, I went to school with him from 1st grade to HS), and his dad stayed put in the same house for all those years up until he died! With all the money he had access to, he could have moved anywhere but he didnt. Why? Its better here.

Funny your inland muggy humid town of Newnan has about 33k people and had 50% more crimes than my town of Newport Beach with with 3x more people, so you cant say its safer either where your at.

Where I live is the armpit of the earth? Clearly you have not seen the sun set on Newport Coast, its more like the Tits. Now your just trolling with that comment is all I can say.

Is the real estate high in Newport Beach? Uh yes it is, its actually ranked #25 most expensive zip code in America. For the reasons listed above its worth it to me. Can't put a price on happiness and opportunity.

Anyway, if you got a job transfer and had to move to sweaty town thats cool man, best of luck. Just don't act like everywhere in Cali sucks, because clearly you have not lived everywhere-here to say that.
LOL - frickin' awesome, thanks for saving me the time.

Wow i would love it. Wife would hate it. And 4 miles to MTF damn..would really have to talk to MTF and work something out.

Damn shame cause I could sell my house in Charlotte and walk right into that one with money in my pocket.

Cali is THE BOMB. Stay away if you don't ilke it here. P.S. your use of the word socialism to describe The Golden State reveals you to be sadly misinformed regarding sociopolitical systems. Better to be silent and let others assume you 're a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it.

Although the Doc from Georgia was a little harsh on the great state of Cali. I know many people from Cali are fleeing en masse. I spent a little over 5 years living in the South Bay Hermosa Beach area then a couple more years in Tahoe. We bailed and moved up North to Bend,Oregon and although the weather was great in California I don't miss the traffic, the lines, the crowds, the gang bangers, the ridiculous taxes and the overpriced everything. I bet Cali was the best place on the planet back in the 50's and 60's. Unfortunately there are too many fucking people there.
