KTM 150 SX

Edited Date/Time 5/16/2016 9:58am
Has anyone here burned laps on a KTM 150SX back to back with a 250F and run comparable lap times on an outdoor track?? At 200lbs these things must be a blast to ride. I imagine the KTM motor runs pretty strong? Only thing that appears to be missing is a linkage...who's got one?

We have an 08 144SX, basically the same bike. The newer ones are supposed to be considerably up on hp and have had a load of refinements in the suspension and handling departments. I have a YZ250F with a 280cc kit and have a workout keeping my kid in sight. Of course we swap bikes and it's still the same! What a blast to ride though, most fun bike on the planet. Like a 125, you still have to keep it humming but with the extra displacement the bike rips like no 125 I've ever been on. KTM really hit a home run with it, a great bike with top notch components stock. Compared to a 250F it's a little more busy with the gearbox but the four stroke is quite boring riding them back to back. Besides, you just can't beat the sounds coming from the 150. My only complaint, the fasteners! The Euro's love them odd numbered metric sockets.

We have both a 125 & 144 which was recently converted to a "larger displacement". If you are willing to work, either of these bikes will run at the front. Two of the best MX bikes we've ever owned.

I have the same issue with the linkage. I have ridden a KTM with out the linkage and hated the rear end of that thing. Although I didn't take a bunch of time to get it set up. I just don't really trust the thing with out really having time to figure the shock out.

Ha ha KC, you the man, sorry about our disagreement over DDavis! I just got my '11 150sx a couple months ago. These things rip!!!!! Back to back against a 250f, they feel faster, but I bet laptimes are better on the easier to ride 250f... I have a PC pipe/silencer, vortex ignition, and run VP ultimate 4... She's hard to ride, but you'll definitely put it away wet after gettin off! I also have a crf450, and the two bikes are exact opposites, but I have more fun on the 150, especially when I wheelie past some jerky on a 4 stroke, ha! Good times for sure...

I have no input on the 150 vs 250F thing but I will say that a friend we race with recently bought a 150 after riding someone elses.
They said it feels like someone put a 250 2 smoke motor into a bike that rides, feels and handles like a 125.

Kind of weird on the bar clamp, but these are the coolest bikes made IMO.

i know that they are sold out in britain,
you can still buy 2011 ktm 4 strokes, but the 2011 150s and 2502ts are gone.

For a young rider or developing rider the 150 SX is a great step up from a 105 or 85, many lighter riders I have seen go backwards in their development hopping on a 250f because thats all the see running in the class and they just don't have the size or muscle to control the bike like they did on their 85.

2 strokes teach corner speed, 4 strokes make you lazy.

Yes I'm sure the "Big four" are licking their chops to get back into the two stroke market....NOT! KTM is a core dirt bike company that really only cares about dirt bike riders. Why do so many kiss japanese ass and frown on the Austrian machine. I just don't get it. To me it's like comparing a Toyota with a Porsche. I'll take the Porsche and be glad all the lemmings keep riding the jap brands.

wont work though, seems like every new 2 stroke at the track these days are ktms.

I don't have $6,000 to spend on a KTM150 right now but got the "fun bike" bug. Would a NOS 2006 KTM125SX for $2500 be a wise investment? It has never left the showroom. Thanks for the input.

Don't know if that would be a "wise investment", but the fun factor of a brand new bike for $2500.00 will have you laughing all the way to the bank. Not to mention the KTM125 is a badass 125.

I got my girlfreind into dirtbikes now and when im riding my 350 sx-f, she's going to ride the 150 sxSmile

we had one... it was fun when it worked, the problem with these bikes was keeping them working. 3 blown engines in 1 year, and that was it for me Angry

That ''shorty'' silencer is short! Is it a 144 or a 150?

the 144 and 150 is the same bike really...both are 144cc's. It officially a 144, and after the 3rd blown engine, KTM put a brand new "150" engine in it, along with the new ignition etc..... I was afraid to ride it after that...so I sold it with the new engine to a fellow forum member, who knew of the previous problems I had. I am not sure how it held up for him, but it had a complete new crate engine when he got it from me.

Re- release a 10 year old dino and think they can ask 6 k for it when you can buy the "same" bike on Craigslist for 1k is as retarded as it gets. We riders are a stupid bunch of trend suckers (few admit it but look in the pit how people bling their bikes out) if they change the rear-fender on the 2012 model we feel our 2011 bike is old. Not doing shit for a decade in design and blame the market for not buying is, well retarded.

KTM obviously got that.

Seriously, how many of us fat weekends warriors would really know the difference between a 04 KTM SX125 with a big bore kit compared to a 2012 KTM SX150? Really? What we do know though is they differ in design...

I bough a crappy CR125 from 1991, had leaking seals, toasted cylinder with no compression, 18 inch rear wheel that was anything than straight and I felt the bike was excellent, maybe a bit different but as rideable as my 2002 CR125.

Put the 2010 YZF plastic on the YZ125/YZ250, re-chim the sucker, change some stupid stuff just to have something to print as in changes and you will have improved sales I promise. How many people can say the 2011 SS is better than the 2006 SS fork, and when you read the ad they make improvements like no other...

Or maybe just me...

So if you are a japanese corp guy working at Honda or whatever. Seriously you stupid? And you can send me a check later on! Smile

R-acer, was than an 08? They changed the rod for the 09 or was if for the 10 I think to improve some cooling there which made some of them to break previously? I know the SX125 04 had some rod issues as well.

You probably have more knowledge here than me, but except the rod, isn't blown two stroke engine something one could prevent by diff jetting, oil mixture etc?

According to KTM it was the bikes fault.... they took the engine, examined it, and fixed it 2 times, then replaced the entire thing the 3rd time. They had a sample of the fuel that was in the tank at the time, they checked the carb settings........

As I recall, your's was one of the 07 models? And I don't think it's any mystery that KTM had some crank issues with the early ones that they took care of under warranty and made necessary changes to correct. Our 08 has been flawless.

I had a brand new 1978 YZ80 that Yamaha replaced the frame on because it crack and split in 13 places. The raplacement frame, with the gusset kit installed did the same. Damn POS Yamaha's, no one should ever buy one again.
