Man, I remember growing up in the mid 80's going to all the socal races and watching him race. Damn he was fast as hell. I was 12 or 13 and looked up to him...then he started getting tatted up and had a killer band of skulls and flames around his ankle, damn, I thought that was the raddest thing ever! I am pretty sure I still have one of his jerseys from back then. Mike was a bad dude and a rider I idolized as a kid. Its a shame he went off the rails a bit, hell we all do to a point.....glad he's back on track. I have to check out the RacerX dealio now.

I seem to remember the top guys in the 1980's basically racing 80's and supermini's until they turned pro. A ton of pics of Healey, Brooks, Denis, Kehoe, etc look like me on a pitbike!

I remember very clearly the day I knew I was never going to be a pro MX racer. I was practicing at Saddleback on my CR125, it was the middle of the week so I had the place almost to myself, it must have been '83 or '84 right before it closed. I was starting to feel my oats and thinking I was pretty fast, thinking I would turn pro next year. All of sudden I hear someone coming up behind me REALLY fast. Right then Mike Healy and Ron Tichenor on R&D Suzuki RM80s (probably 105s) go by me on either side and absolutely BLOW my doors off.

I rode back to my truck, loaded up and went home. I stayed a fan of Mike since then.

I talk to Mike on a semi regular basis and I can assure you he is absolutely 100% on the right path and has been for a while now he is doing great. A while ago on instagram I made a positive comment regarding his new path in life. Mike just graduated from the Paul Mitchell school and is going to pursue a career as a Barber. He asked me if I could swing by for a haircut while he was still at school, I always thought Mike was one pure badass so naturally I jumped at the opportunity, if you were a fan wouldn't you? Anyway it was awesome got to sit and chat old Moto stories with him and he told me the full stanton story from Japan it was hilarious. By the way he has a second natural talent in cutting hair which is something he is pursuing with his daughter. It was really cool to be able to sit and chat with him and to eliminate anyones doubts Mike is doing great, not currently riding though but I'm working on doing a school with him and talk to him pretty regularly. I only shared this story to clear up any "vitardian" hearsay and not name dropping. Just wanted to make sure if anyone genuinely wanted to know first hand how he is doing. He's been a really cool dude and I'm stoked to know the guy on a personal level. I'll send him a link to this thread… .theres some awesome pictures in here.

I sent him a pm also....it would be good to hear from him, I'm a fan

How cool would that be? To shoot moto with a guy that was smoking fast in the day while getting a haircut.....

Not quite as cool as getting boobies rubbed on you while getting a haircut tho. :-)

Can't find one of this bike from the side and front. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Either in keywords or with an actual picture. I was a kid in this era and can only google for combinations with his name ...

Mike used to show up to the Wild West race series back in the mid-late 90's and just ruin everyone. The guy was so unreal on the bike, it was awesome to see. He even brought Seth Enslow with him a few times on their black YZ's and their Xtreme gear. He always had the sickest custom helmets too... It was a very impressionable time for me and i remember i was a huge fan of him. Somehow he ended up being really good friends with one of our racing buddies and ended up moving in with him and building a private track.

not sure how much longer after is when Mike went downhill, but for those few years that he would show up to our local races it was awesome. still a huge fan.

thanks TBlazier for getting this one going
I also remember him kicking ass at Wild West, i was a little dude and I'm glad I grew up watching dudes in that era, just a rad time in motocross

Mike would regularly post lap times on his mini bikes at Saddleback park that were as fast or faster than the factory level pros on full sized bikes...
