Running it clockwise this year. Article from our local paper. Frankly, I long for a track designed by Gary Bailey, but I'm sure it will be fine.

Finish line strategically placed due to the typically longer races ?? Will only see 19 and 1/4 laps in the 450 main. Is always a great race, but that track design doesn't excite me.

This design could have been better.. but still, i'll settle myself behind my computer on raceday.

I always like watching the 1980's Daytona races, where they crossed over asphalt and everything, those were neat, as the original poster said, the Gary bailey designed tracks, he made use of everything he could.

I hope the racing is better than the track layout suggests it will be. It's hard to make passes without corners.

The whole front straight should be 4 separate whoop sections with each individual set of whoops being a different size/pattern. That would be interesting.

I was there in 1979, Broc Glover did a face plant on a table on the far far left of the track in practice. I remember he had on a Jofa type mouth guard and it was full of dirt.

Wow, it's basically a circle that loops back on itself one time. I agree there doesn't seem to be many place to pass. That whole lower section looks like follow the leader.

YES!

I was wondering where the heck the whoops went. I like your idea, the whole front straight after the finish line should be whoops.

I bet he was happy to be using a mouth guard that day! How about the Johnny O leap, that was awesome too!

I wish they could bring back the rough 90s tracks that Stanton and mc use to race on, that was real Daytona. This track needs help.

This is not a good Daytona layout. Not even close.

That must've taken an entire 5 minutes to design.

When I saw this at 6am, the first thing that I noticed was the small number of turns and the lack of "obstacles". I'm hoping that when the dozers start moving dirt that some things will be added.

I'm looking at about 35 years of attending this event. You can't really blame RC for the containment of the track inside the DIS tri-oval. That's a speedway thing. What bums me out is the fact that the Daytona round has become much more vanilla and similar to other rounds on the series, instead of the "Holy Shit, Look at that Track!!!" reaction that we, as fans, used to experience when we first saw it.

Take note, however, that they used the entire tri-oval this year, which is a change from last year when they trimmed off the far right and left corners.

Regardless, as other have said, I'll be there again, enjoying myself, but thinking of years gone by that truly made this race the most exciting race in the series by far.

With a track like this that appears to be pretty wide open, will we see the strong Yamaha motors running out front? Long straights, minimal turns. Just spit-ballin' here.

Could be worse.

Anybody remember early 80's Daytona?

Riding across the pavement in spots to crossover to the next track section?

Go to 1:15 and pick up there....hannah in the lead sliding all over the pavement at 1:25

I wonder if the design is "dialed back" to suit the amateur racing? I mean, I know they can and will still dumb it down some, but could that have influenced the design?
