Is his knee still hurt, too?
According to James, the knee will get fixed after retirement.

Definitely the right thing to do. Man the 450s will be so stacked. Just hope everyone stays healthy for the start of the outdoors.

James/PR - "I’m psyched to be on the gate for Hangtown and now I just want to get the 2013 AMA Pro Motocross Championship.”

I was psyched to be in CompUSA when I wanted to get my HD TV, damn... sounds just as easy! Hehe

GuyB earlier in the week used a Cr7stal ball, I only have my magic 8 ball and it says:

We'll see, that's the fun part.

I wish him the best but we've been down this road way too many times with James. When was the last time he actually finished a complete series healthy...4 or 5 years now? The guy is an amazing talent and he's raised the bar for everybody else in the sport but it seems like the combination of bad luck and bad decisions have cost him dearly.

Stewart's optimistic comments like that always remind me of this video: http://www.ted.com/talks/derek_sivers_keep_your_goals_to_yourself.html (warning: boring-yet-kind-of-interesting)

I'll probably get crucified for this one. But what would people say if James just wanted to race for fun? I know that guys at that level, their idea of "fun" is to win both races and championships. I know James has said he wants to win some more championships, but I'm throwing out a "what if" scenario. Let's say a year or two down the road, he's accomplished all he wants(or maybe he hasn't) and he just wants to race his dirtbike against the worlds elite riders, with nothing to prove, not take any unnecessary risks riding injured, and just wants to have fun. Sort of like Windham did. Just keep racing simply because he enjoys it. Would people continue to be so hard on him? Or would he gain new respect by just being out there having fun? Fire away.

Agreed that James is doing the smartest thing overall. He's been out of the real hunt for a while...no sense letting pride cause more damage. Here's hoping that the wrist heals 100% and he can be strong outdoors.

I am just happy that this year there have been no major injuries to limit the competition for the top-5 spots. Everybody is seemingly fairly healthy and going for it down to the wire. It's been a great season!

Coming from someone who still believes he is the fastest when he is on/focused we will never see that Stewart again and it's a damn shame.

Watch the Powell Peralta Bones Brigade Documentary. The movie discusses this same mentality with some of the greatest skateboarders of all time, including Rodney Mullin and Tony Hawk.
If it means anything I agree with you.
