Thinking about getting myself big wheel version of the CRF150R to play on, not racing MX anymore due to neck injury 5 year ago, so thinking of getting the bike. Any one on the board have one? If so, what's your take on the bike. I am 5 ft 2" tall, weigh 155 lbs. Used to raced the MEGA series age classes on 2001 YZ 250's so I know about the bike performance stuff. Cannot actually race, but want a play bike and debated about a HONDA CRF230 then got to thinking about the CRF150R and thought it would be a much more fun playbike, be mostly just riding local practice tracks for fun.
SO whatta think 230F or 150R expert?

Well, you could go with the 600 pound CRF230, packed with about 14 HP, and suspension of a late model Matchless...

Or the CRF150R that will be perfect for a 5' 2" rider. and able to race when you're ready, cuz if you raced once, you'll do it again. A neck injury won't stop you...It didn't me.

This 4 stroke stuff is all new to me. I'm thinking about buying a bike at 44 years old. What class would you race the crf 150r in? When I got out of racing all there was was 2 strokes. my last bike was a 1984 cr 125.
Thanks, mark

I have one for sale. It was my 40 y/o brother's. He rode it about 8 times in the woods behind the house. If you're interested, email me at rallendude at aol.com .

It's like new. He's asking $2800 for it but my negotiate. He needs money for a car for his 16 y/o daughter.

Oh, the bike is fun to ride. It's under sprung on the rear but that's easily fixed. I've got a BBR CRF150f with the full aluminum chassis and the yard bike engine. The 150r is probably more fun if I were going to push it. I'm 5'-8" and about 185. My brother is about 5'-6" and 145 or so. He does just fine on it.

AJ, when you gonna get your hands on a BBR aluminum perimeter frame and stuff that 250r engine in it?

Does the geometry make that Jr R bike hard to ride?

It seems like BBR put a 250r engine in a 150 frame a while back. MXA did a test on it it and said it's impossible to keep the front end down. Sounds like a bitchen little scooter, though.

The wife is 5'2" (little under) and has the 150r, not big wheel though. Shes about 101 pounds. She loves it, she rides it pretty hard for a chick and keeps up with some of the kids on 85's at the moto track. Im 5'10.5" and about 160ish. I ride the thing for fun, and its got some balls, WAAAAY more than her first bike (ttr125). Though, for someone your weight (close to mine) the bike has to work HARD to get goin, same as an 85 pretty much. If you want to put, it is fun, but on a warm day if your not getten a decent amount of air in the radiators, it will get warm. If I were you I would consider a used 125, they arent much taller and well, tons more balls. You used to race so if you were to get a mini it would just seem like a dog to you. Though, if you are set on a mini, I cant think of a better option that a 150R (big wheel).

PS- She fits on her 150r (standard wheel) about the same as I do on my crf250r, both feet touch, but not flat footed. The kickstarter is long on the thing so you have to get way up to bring it down. If you get it, plan on re-jetting immediately.

rallendude-
it handles great.. lots of guys, (and women) out there railing around on them..

it doesnt try to wheelie anymore than a crf150RB..

i tested putting a longer swingarm on it,,but after testing ,the RB (expert chassis)
swingarm lenght is perfect.. for that bike.

we offer the complet ebik e(one shipping ou ttoday actually)
and i offer a conversion "kit"
(a customer sends me his CRF150R (or RB.)frame ,subframe and swingarm.
.I send it back modified and assemnbled with the new CRF250R engine in it..subrafe airbox and swingarm on.. so he can just toss the suspension, wheels ,tank and plastic on and go ride). DirtRider and dirt Bike, both had nice reviews on it last summer ,, DBike saying - "it was the finest honed "speciality" bike to ever grace the planet"

Hey aj,
Any chance you still have or wouldn't mind making another one of those "extended" swingarms again?

for your diminutive size you will fit it perfect and have a blast. Just don't get mad when a 9 year old on a 65 blows by y Smile

My GF has a 2011 CRF150R. She is 5' nothing and just can touch one footed so she does not ride it alot. I get on it and rip it around the hay field some when we have it out. I am 6'4" 330#. Now granted it is not a power house with me on it, but it is fun and light to throw around. No by no means do I jump it. lol Be for warned it does over heat kinda easy. I will putt around the yard on it and take my kids around the yard and I have to watch cause it gets hot. They are deff made to run fast. Have fun.

We have a 2012 CRF150 in our fleet. Bought it for my daughter. Sweet little bike. We put a rekluse in it and it makes it such a fun starter bike. Anyone can hope on it and putter around or you can rip it on a track. My son still likes to ride it. He raced supermini's and his 109.5 Kawi is faster and better on a mx track but he still loves the bottom end power of the little 150!

I'm 5 feet 7, 150 pounds and ride the 150 RB as a play bike on my backyard track and single track and love it. It's fast enough for me and is so easy to load and unload at about 190 pounds. I'm old and slow so I don't get out of 4th gear on my track but that's about as fast as I want to go. I've had a 230f and a 250X and have way more fun on the 150R especially with cornering. Mine is an 07 and I haven't had any problems with it and it still starts by the 4th or 5th kick. I'll ride the local vet track occasionally and have no problem keeping up with the flow.
