KTM 390 Duke. Any thoughts, opinions ?

Will be wife's first full street bike, she's coming off an XT250 dual sport. She sat on one and likes the size, weight, and the more upright dirt bike like seating position like she's used too on her XT. (And her CR250) She's ridden plenty in the dirt, and has been on the pavement for 2 years now on the XT so she's not a new rider but has only been on the street for 2 years. We need to extend our range past pch and one or two onramps on the freeway Laughing . Looking to do 150 - 200 mile rides. Any opinions ? Good first road bike or .... something else better ? Thanks

Probably wind up with 2 ?? I can get 2 of those for less than a new 450

I tried buying a RC390 “for the wife”... she saw right thru the rouge.

Nice looking bike. I always had a hard on for the 2010ish style 690 duke for myself. Been looking for a clean used one. Loved that style for some reason better than the new ones.

Let me know if she would be interested in this bike, to me the easiest to ride street bike I’ve ever owned. I never ride it and it sits in the garage. I have a new Harley that fits be better and the Triumph sits. Bought it in Oct for $15,500 OTD with many accessories from triumph they were put on when I bought it. Touring windshield, seat, Vance n Hines pipes, wax leather saddle bags on both sides. I have it stripped down for my
Local coast rides. It has 620 miles and just had the 500 miles service done so it’s good to go until 10,000 miles. The 1200 motor is awesome. It’s a 2018 Triumph Speedmaster Bonneville. Google Jay Leno triumph speedmaster and you’ll see a great rest rise he did on one. I love it but it sits way too much. Paid $15,500....will sell it to you for 9000 if interested. You are welcome to come to Vista to take it for a ride....it really is a blast to ride but I must say I prefer the big ass Harley for my 6’ 2” frame.

BTW I think those KTMs are bitchen

It's easy to ride but hard to get out of the garage? Smile
Is this about the Triumph? It is the easiest bike I’ve ever ridden. Very low to the ground and it practically balances itself when I pull up to a stop sign. I bought it because I love the Triumph design and construction but it really is too small for my body. 9 outta 10 times I go for a ride I hop in the Harley.

Those dukes keep calling to me. But haven’t bought one yet. Feel like I’m going to have to buy one eventually.

I think she'd be way intimidated by that but Thanks for the offer ! I'm going to wind up with 2 390 Dukes. We ride together a lot and it's funner if we're both on the same bike. Kind of figured that out when we're dual sporting and she's on her XT250 and I'm on my WR450. What's fun for her and what's fun for me are 2 different things, mainly due to the difference in bikes. I've seen places blowing out 18' 390 dukes for around $4,500. Hoping to get 2 otd and on the road for under 10K

Ok I'm following this thread and look forward to seeing the two new Dukes in the garage.

Doesn't really seem like a true beginner bike but the fact she has off-road experience and limited street bike experience definitely helps.

You guys should have some great times on those bikes.
I would have her take a riding safety course if she hasn't already.

Yes it's unreal sometimes the amount of street bike you can get for the price, compared to motocross and off road bikes which are very expensive.

Me too ! We took a class at Saddleback Rider Training 2 years ago when we got our m1 endorsements. Do you remember the counter steering thread ? She actually understands that now hahaha. And you're right there was lots of good information in the class. I didn't know until we were in the class that the program was run by a guy in our otmx chapter (Lyle Sweeter). Know what was scary about the rider training class ? There were a few people that had NEVER ridden a motorcycle before, no minibikes no dirtbikes nothing, and a couple of those had already bought R1's or some other 180mph out of the box crotch rockets, scary shit. There was also a Harley guy who showed up with Harley boots, Harley headband, Harley jacket, Harley everything, he probably had Harley socks and underwear. Guy was wobbling all around on the lightweight beater training bikes like he'd never ridden a bicycle. Also a couple young guys and a girl who had no concept of shifting or how to use a clutch. When we pull the trigger I'll post pics

Our new son in law has a Harley (a 900lb Harley Blink ) They do "river runs" to Laughlin etc. with our daughter on the back. Can't say we're overly happy about it but they're adults and only listen to Mom and Dad so much lol. Getting her a full face helmet and decent jacket was a battle I wasn't going to lose, I believe our words were we don't give a fuck one if she looks like a rebel with a pudding bowl for a helmet or not, she's getting a full face high quality helmet. Anyway she want's her own bike and I'd love to see her on that over a Harley all day and all week, I don't know how "Harley Loyal" he is, but all their friends have Harleys so safe to say that's the direction her peer pressure will be nudging her, I'll work on her lol. I'll ask her how serious they are. They just got a home that's going down to the concrete floor and studs, so their $ situation will more than likely be tied up in that for awhile. Thanks again for the test ride offer Cool Cool

Haha...I pity you to have a daughter on the back of a streetbike. I take my 37 year old girl every year on the Radys hospital ride at Christmas and it frightens the hell out of me to have her on the back. One nice thing she told everyone last Christmas that brought me great joy. “Dad is the only one I’d ever climb on the back of a bike with”

You’ll have a blast on those KTMs and you are so lucky to have a wife that does that with you. I listed the Triumph late last night and already have a guy coming to check it out. It really is a great learner/girl bike but you are right, it won’t fit n with the Harley crowd. Interesting that the Triumph 1200 with its 500ib weight feels faster than my 1800cc HD that weighs 800plus

My KTM is acting up again. I think the fuel pump is going. Ordered a used one off of Ebay last night.
