This build took me three years from start to finish. This is an accurate replica of what Taneharu Noguchi and his crew would have crated up and shipped to Dirty Distributing in the spring of 1973. At that time the three "Team Dirty" riders were Karl Siegel, Dennis Hall, and Jimmy Merck. This bike is a tribute to them. I'm happy to say that Jimmy is a friend of mine. He's been gracious enough to share photos and details from his time racing during this era. Sadly, Dennis Hall and Karl Siegel have both passed on. I tried very hard to get this bike right. Many of the NOS parts were very hard to find. Nearly all of the hardware is NOS, nothing has been re-plated. A good deal of trial and error was used to get the paints the right shade. It isn't perfect, but I tried my best. Thanks for checking out my bike.

Very nice bike. Does it still have all the Noguchi tricks in the engine ? An old friend of mine used to road race / dirt track for Team Dirty back in the early 70's, Jay Levingston. I believe he was #1 novice in the nation in 72 or 73 .

No tricks, in fact I'm still looking for the correct piston. I came across Jay's name while doing my research. He did well at Loudon and Daytona if I remember correctly. He likely raced one of these bikes.

Wow.. very, very cool. They had upswept pipes in 1973? Was it meant for trail and not MX? I recall that all the MXers had down swept pipes in those days and trail bikes had upswept pipes until about 1976.

The bike was built for motocross. The upswept Noguchi pipes were available for Yamaha bikes as early as 1972, possibly earlier.

Very cool. My "uncle" Tony Wynn rode the first yz250 monoshock version for Dirty Distributing, the one that Cycle news did the article on. Been thinking about making a replica since the parts are so hard to find. A member here has that bike, I emailed them for some info but I think it went to the junk folder.

Nicely done! Using the vintage pop crates for a bike stand is a great touch! I remember those at the gas stations when I was a kid (100 years ago).
