Noice! Are you racing it? If so, why the RL instead of the X?

- Vortex ECU

- FMF Q pipe (with header)

- AHM Suspension

- Seat Concepts XL seat (I hated hated the stock seat.  This seat is great.)

- Source Off Road mods: (450X Fender/License Plate conversion, Stealth Blinkers, Rear Brake Banjo Bolt, Kickstand switch Delete)

- Steahly Flywheel Weight

- IMS Tank

- I removed all the covers off the cases

I think that's the main things.

Yes, racing in the desert (and a couple times MX).  I went with the RL instead of the X because I wanted to do some dual sport riding.  Unfortunately, I have been about 99% off road so far.  The dual sporting just hasn't happened (yet).

I’m about to pull the trigger on one also. After much research, looks like the Vortex ECU and Yosh exhaust are the first mods on the list.
Please let us know what you think about the throttle response after riding it for a bit. It’s supposedly very jerky and subject to flameouts stock.
It’ll be a really fun bike with a couple of tweaks from what I’ve seen.  Congrats 👍

So, the first couple rides I was like wow the flameouts are bad just like everyone said. I had a 450RX to which people complained about that but I never had an issue with that bike. I turned up the idle slightly and the flameouts seemed to stop. I’ve put maybe 100 miles on it and I’ve had no issues in that regard anymore. The jerkyness is there for sure, and it’s just all plugged up as far as power goes. It’ll still hit 75 no problem though.

I ended up going with the GET ECU tuned by taco moto. It’s in the mail right now so I haven’t put it on. Im going to pair that with an fmf q4 system because I didn’t want a really loud exhaust on there. Will update when things get installed.

Great choice on the ECU. I have been running the SX-1 GET ECU from taco Moto for a little over a month and have been extremely pleased with the performance gains out of my ‘23 CRF450RL. I also have the full yoshi system and smog block off delete kit/plate and it has completely cured the twitchy throttle issue and flame outs that were common while running it stock. I rode mine to 2500 miles before pulling the trigger to see if the throttle problem would improve and I can attest that it doesn’t improve with time and breaking in of the engine. The GET ECU is by far the best mod I’ve made so far. That and getting rid of the stock IRC tires! Will lift the front tire without any help from the clutch 1st-4th gear. If you find you still get a little bit of deceleration popping after installing an exhaust and the ECU, just add 1-2% fueling from 2000 rpm up and from 20% throttle and up and it will go away.

I hear AHM has the suspension for these bikes dialed? Is this true?

I think they did a good job.

I haven't had my suspension modified too often over the years, so I don't have a lot to compare to.  But I would pick AHM again.

I've heard the same. The rear shock is actually travel limited due to the massive stock exhaust. If you get an aftermarket exhaust AHM will remove the internal spacer so you get full travel.

Sorry for the delayed response. I’ve got about 5k miles on her now and I’m loving it. I did 2 longer adv rides about 1000miles each ride, one camping off the bike, and the other just motel rooms. I had no issues to report with the bike it worked great. I was riding with buddies on Tenere’s and 890’s and all the comments were I wish I were on a smaller bike. The only time I felt like I wish I had a bigger bike was when we had to hit the highway for a while to help a buddy out.

I did put a 14t in the front and for me it seems to be the right gearing. I can cruise 65 loaded with gear and I don’t feel like I’m reviving it out at all. I’m a lugger I don’t like revving bikes out. It also still works great in tight stuff.

all in all I’m so glad I got this bike it’s opened up a whole new world of riding for me. Unfortunately I destroyed my ankle on my other bike at the track so no rides until next year.
here’s a little video my buddy made of 2 days of one of our trips.

Oh nice! I didn’t know this! Thanks for the info @ace402! I’ve got a full yoshi system on my bike. That stock can is the first thing that had to go! Haha I understand they had to meet emissions and all but that thing was unnecessarily large. Not to mention HEAVY. I think I may give them a call and see what they can get my suspension hooked up. I haven’t found the stock suspension to be bad. I want to make this bike as good as it can be though. I wish I had a truck at this point in time as I would have just bought a race bike and called it a day. That’s where my desire really falls but if can spend time on a road legal bike, I will take it. I spend all of my time riding off road anyway. Just got new tires put on 2 days ago and was out all day yesterday ripping around the pasture trying to get me a “track” worn into the grass. At 155 pounds, throwing this bike into a rut and laying it over is a little daunting to me still but I’m working on it. My last bike was a YZ125 that I had back in 2010.. so this is a big step up in power and weight for me compared to what I was used to with the YZ. It’s fun nevertheless and the CRF honestly doesn’t show it weight except for in tight super technical stuff from what I have experienced so far.

Hey, I’m glad to hear that you’ve been enjoying the crf! I’ve been riding mine everyday that the weather has permitted. I live in Southern Illinois and we are lacking in the “places to ride” department. It’s unfortunate because there’s so many areas here that would make for incredible riding. I’m 5 miles outside of the Shawnee National Forest and man there are spots all throughout it that would make for supreme riding for years on end. They don’t permit motorized vehicle use in the forest though.. I’ve heard that it can be done if you’re ballsy and smart about it 😝

A family friend owns a motocross track in a nearby town and was holding Loretta Lynn’s qualifier races out there every year but he has recently quit maintaining the track due to his age. I’ve wanted to get this bike out onto a motocross track so bad. I know it’s a little on the heavy side for regular riding of that type but I believe it would be a blast either way!

I just rolled over 3,800 miles on mine yesterday. Just fit some Metzler MC360 Soft/Mid tires on it Wednesday afternoon. They have been an awesome addition so far! Seem like they are going to wear very well and they have done nothing but hook and go! I agree about the highway riding.. when I ride with friends who have bigger bikes I find myself wishing I had a little more motor for extended highway speeds. Are you liking the 14t front sprocket? Any clearance issues with the chain? What kind of chain are you running? I am planning on ordering a new chain and sprockets for mine today as I’m still running the stock chain and it is shot. It’s done nothing but stretch since day one. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve had to adjust it and it’s at the end of the swingarm now so I’m just going to bite the bullet and trash it and get something that’s built to last.

thanks for sharing your video! I would give anything to live out west/PNW and have that type of riding in my backyard everyday. I wouldn’t know how to act! Haha I can only imagine how good the riding must be out there man. Lucky dog! Hate to hear about your ankle man! I hope that you have a speedy and proper recovery so that you can get back to riding as soon as possible. In the meantime, take it easy and rest up! The next season will be with us in no time! Thanks for getting back to me. I know I kinda hopped onto this thread kinda late for it being posted awhile back haha but I had to know! I appreciate your input as there’s not a lot of us that have these bikes. It’s always nice to meet another rider that I can share experiences, suggestions, and ideas with and vice versa.

14t is the ticket for me, but not for everyone. No clearance issues, and I’ve had the stock chain on the whole time. I know people have knocked it for whatever reason but it’s worked just fine for me. Keep it clean and lubed up, all good.

Love the postings.  Just picked up a 2024 CRF450RL.   Of all the racks on the market I love the low profile of the Skaggs, but Out of Stock...and no contact info to see what it would take to order another.   Honda has not fixed the low throttle behavior -- still ridiculously twitchy.     Get ECU and Graves exhaust ordered from TacoMoto along w Yosh fender cleanup.

Looking to use as trail bike and poss BDRs here on the East Coast.   Been riding a buddies ancient but reliable KLR250, so big change.

Anyone got a spare Skaggs rack to sell?
