MARIETTA, Ga. – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing is excited to announce a multi-year deal with Cooper Webb to race the premier class of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, Pro Motocross, and SuperMotocross World Championship. The muli-time champ joins Eli Tomac and Justin Cooper for a potent three-pronged effort next year aboard the YZ450F. This weekend, Webb will kick off his reunion with the team in front of the home crowd at the inaugural SMX World Championship Playoff 1 at the zMax Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina.
Webb made his pro debut with the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team in 2013. Together, they notched an impressive tally of wins in the 250 class and earned back-to-back Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250SX West Championships in 2015 and 2016, as well as the 2016 Pro Motocross 250MX title. Webb went on to be a title contender in the 450 class with a pair of Monster Energy AMA Supercross 450SX titles (2019, 2021) and has 21 victories in the class thus far. The North Carolina rider is excited to return with the team where he started and to make his debut aboard the all-new YZ450F this weekend as the sport begins a new era with the SMX World Championship Finals.

“We’re excited to announce Cooper Webb’s return to the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team. We’re also really excited for the upcoming 2024 season with a strong three-rider lineup to continue to pave the way for success in the premier class. Cooper is a proven title contender and is hungrier than ever. Together, we enjoyed a lot of success in the 250 class and are looking forward to having him back and seeing what we can do with the all-new YZ450F.”
Jeremy Coker – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 450 Team Manager
“Reuniting with Cooper Webb signals not just a homecoming but also a bright horizon for the team. We’re all pretty excited to get going and to see the legacy he will build in this new chapter with his home team.”
Cooper Webb – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing
“I’m super excited to be racing for the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team again. It feels like a family reunion. It’s all the people that I started my career with, and I can’t wait to go racing with them again.
“Racing in Charlotte for me is a dream come true. It’s my home race. The last time we raced there, I had probably my best race ever. I’m really looking forward to getting back to the gate with this team and this bike and starting off my new chapter well.”
Cooper with something to prove and a North Carolina home track attitude could certainly make things a little interesting!
With the playoffs tight points he absolutely has a good chance!
🎶 “I'm coming home, I'm coming home
Tell the world that I'm coming…
… I'm back where I belong, yeah I never felt so strong (yeah)”🎶
Gonna be interesting to see how he goes in SX. Will his whoop speed increase, and will he maintain his ability to cut down turns like he could on KTM? Dangerous if both are yes
That’s a dangerous combination and mentality. All at the right time.
Damn that is one angry sounding bike.
The Shop
I for one am SHOCKED and I did NOT see this coming. What next? Sexton to KTM?
Jokes aside, I can see Webb being real dangerous on a Star Yamaha. Would love to be a fly on the wall at the Star rigg when he and Tomac start getting into it.
Very interested to see that team dynamic, especially if they’re both fighting for a title next year.
He look so good in blue.
It's just the remaining races in 2023 and the 2024 season?
There's something satisfying about seeing Coop back on a Yamaha.
Press release says “multi-year deal” which is not very specific 😂
You wait until the day before the race to announce? I don't see the Yamaha being a cornercross machine but maybe I am wrong.
Generally when they say multi-year you assume the next two full seasons before any options for extension or leaving? I think they only say it so us commoners know it isn't a one year only deal.
'23 SMX and the '24 seasons next year would be "multi-year" in the absolute loosest sense of the words, so I may be wrong but I would doubt that's the case.
The old "blu pig" didn't suit him it him, now with the new slimmed down Yamaha he should be pretty damn near the same if not better than the KTM, love Coop can't wait to see what he can do.
Looks better in blue.
The "CHAMP" is back??? Dude is 3 years removed from a championship...
edit: He literally left Yamaha and then won 450 titles on a different bike.
Yeah.....but that was a team with a very poor philosophy....and a different motorcycle
Agreed. Factory Yamaha was far too corporate and "by the book" about the changes to their bike for each rider. Kawasaki sounds like they're just as strict.
Semantics. They all get called “champ” once they win even if it’s a few years removed. He did however, win titles with Star on 250s.
While not a surprise...we all knew it was coming...I am super jazzzed for Coop. Been a big fan from the first time I saw the scrapper race.
What a 450 team. Two 2x Supercross champs and Justin Cooper too. A cool aspect of the team is the respect both Eli and Coop have for each other. (based on their interviews last year).
Lets go Coop.
Pit Row
Cooper said it’s a 2 year deal of full SX, MX and SMX. So looks like he’s sign through 2025.
I must be the only one here that can't stand cooper Webb. It really confirmed my feelings when I was in the pits at Arlington SX and he was signing his autograph for all the ktm Jr kids and he had this shitty look on his face the whole time like he didn't wanna be there doing that. That didn't sit right with me. Those little kids look up to the pros like their gods. The least he could've done was do it with a smile and be more cheerful/interactive for the kids. Idk. I love kids and that just wasn't cool to me
He wasn’t mad, that’s just his face 😂
...and yet, there are numerous accounts of him being totally genuine and giving with the fans.
Good grief, the stuff people come up with just boggles the mind.
I've pretty much given up any hope that Coop can ever be a high-end outdoors competitor on the 450 based on 2019, 2021, and 2023... but he was a damn good outdoor rider on the Star Yamaha 250. Obviously, the 450 is a different beast and that was also 7 years ago, but perhaps there's a chance he feels more comfortable on the YZ?
I’m surprised he’s doing MX. One win in his career and very few podiums. He just doesn’t have it outdoors and is a legit title threat every year indoors, as evidenced by his two championships. That type of massive discrepancy is uncommon.
This couldn't be further than the truth. I've known Bob for years and the few interactions I've had with cooper, he's been a very chill and super nice.
Not to discount what you witnessed, and he isn’t exactly my favorite rider either, but, He was genuinely awesome with my son at the last monster energy cup and to this day he is my boy’s favorite because he was nice and gave him fist bumps and talked to him that one time. Goes to show you how something small like that shapes opinions one way or another!
I have not been a fan of Cooper, but with that said, I wouldn't totally write him off on one interaction. Everybody has bad days and You might have seen him at just the wrong time. I think he might be more likeable if he put himself out there more. Kinda like how RV has been after retirement.
A customer's son ran into Cooper at a restaurant and ended up eating and hanging out with him for a few hours. He said that all Cooper wanted to talk about was moto. Everything was all focused on being a better rider. The customer was a fast local pro back years ago and even had signed a KTM deal before getting hurt. So the customers kid grew up around moto and people that were dedicated to racing at a high level. And he was blown away by how into racing Cooper was. I think that he is just so focused on being the best racer he can be, that it might come across as something elses. After hearing that story and some other interactions people have had, I changed my views on Cooper.
I think he could gain a lot of fans if he let his personality show some more.
He is already sweating
Yep. It wouldn't shock me to learn that AC & JA are still running Villopoto settings.
