280cc rumours flying about, possibly being protested
280cc rumours flying about, possibly being protested
🧐
Easy to clear this up right away. There is nothing illegal about his bike.
It sounds like another team protested, but that is just them being worried that there is another contender.
Max was joking about the protest in our post-race pod and, obviously, he would not be doing that if there was any truth to it.
It is just our sport being weird. Case closed!
Not saying it's impossible but...I highly doubt this. If true...so dumb.
That’s a bit political from the guy who was thinking f**k me I hope Noel is racing!
The Shop
You lost me… Who is Noel?
Was the bike torn down ?
Was thinking, damn that bike must be bad ass, Max isn’t a small dude but if its skill, where was it in 450. Weird? Things that make you go hmmm?
Anstie has been a world class rider for years. Sometimes it just takes the right combination of preparation, training, bike setup, feeling comfortable, having things outside of racing in a good spot, etc in a good spot so you can perform your best on Saturday.
Mxon last year, your podcast, when talking about how Slovenia weren’t there but there where FIM teams put together
“who as ever said fuck me I hope Noel is racing”
His bike didn't sound any different to me, usually a big bore is noticeable by ear. Not saying it can't be done, but I highly doubt it.
Star protesting bc they didn’t go to impound? Maybe someone should protest star for frames or swing arms
Are you drunk? If so, go watch some youtube or something. heh
Lewis is one of us now. Love the guy
Max is flat out extremely talented rider who is on a bike that is completely figured out. Look at Dean in the 450. The Firepower team is not some jinky privateer team that will take a chance at cheating on a motor. Especially a motor. They are a top team like Club at and a few others. Its just typical lame politics amongst teams, Been happening since day one.
Thanks Lewis...for everyone's benefit goto 27:47 here:

Been listening to the guy for a long time, that response is just far from what you would expect from him when he was at MXV
Was meant tongue in cheek, but thanks for the life advice
I know there is a time and a place for seriousness, fun, laughs and everything else! Haha! I choose wisely...
No, but seriously, the reason that we spoke about in the Vital MX post-race podcasts is because it's insane.
I didn't know what to expect from Max, but WSX was amazing for him and he's been happy with the bike for quite a while now.
Ahhh. I actually listened to the MXVICE podcast that you are referring too but don't understand how it relates to this Max being protested topic. I apologize for being a dick head. My bad. I'm sorry.
I have a vague memory of that joke... I think I made myself laugh with that.
Where is Craig’s skill at in 450?
your question doesn’t make much sense to me. Craig was 250 champ last year and is now a 10-15 450 guy. Nothing unusual about what Anstie is doing other then he had a great day I’d say.
Pit Row
Haven’t checked but didn’t Max qualify out of most of the heat races in 450 last year. Checked the first 6 races only once in the LCQ, & lying 13th overall 15 after 7th race (didn’t finish). Some guys feel much more comfortable on a smaller CC bike (Wilson Bogle McElrath Craig) how would they do if in the 250 class.
So this 280cc nonsense is it on the rider or the team ? Problem is it’s the rider that suffers most.
They dont need to tear it down to measure it.
AMA have a thing that they screw into the cylinder to check displacement, they did a bunch of '450's' in the AMA supermoto.
On the compression stroke with the plug out it will displace 250cc of air. It literally took them 5 minutes per bike.
Obviously that doesnt confirm the legality of the parts, but it takes away the 'having a big one in ' argument.
Phone Seewer, ask him! 🍻
Case closed based on no facts or you measured the internals?
No, case closed as in the case has actually been closed. It is all fine.
I only operate on facts. That's the only way to do this job...
I heard Max’s bike makes 1.21 gigawatts
Right on, thanks for reporting back on it.
That is a terrible way to check for a cheater bike.
Follow along. Say you have a engine with xxmm bore and xx stroke.
Just using random numbers here, You put in a 5 or 10mm bigger piston.
Say You increase rod length X mm to take up the space to achieve 250cc. Or a longer rod with smaller crank throws or pin position to avoid valve interference.
While it is in fact 250cc, the configuration is completely different.
The only way to be accurate is tear it down as you can't see the rod and crank just by pulling the head.
If you don't think people will go to that level of work, ever seen a big bore or stroker V8 except the #1 cylinder?
I’m pretty sure that you can change bore and stroke as long as you don’t go over the max displacement for the class. At least you used to be able to as Yamaha used to sell long rod kits through GYTR. And yes, this was during the production rule period.
As long as it’s 250cc or less, and you use the proper engine cases, you can do almost anything that you want to get there.
Steroids too , might as well put some frosting on that cupcake.
Is this the norm nowadays?
"you beat me so you must have cheated' schtick.
"
great scott!!!!
