Excusing bad behavior is not how bad behavior is corrected. You wouldn't let your kid kick your dog or throw his plate at mom (I hope). So this mechanical cost a shit ton of money. Brutal...heartbreaking even...but childish tantrums don't belong in professional sports. There are other ways to express emotions.
Can we please stop equating kicking in inanimate object to animal abuse or violence towards others? Get a grip, haters..... these things are not even remotely in the same category.....
And therein lies the problem. I have tried several times to differentiate between hate and displeasure/disappointment. I DIG Deegan....if I hated him...I'd laugh at his antics. I want him to be a great champion. He will grow up...can't stop it but what he becomes is the question.
My dog ain't in the fight. Turd or badass legend....up to him.
Didn't RV2 punch Jason Lawrence in the face with his front wheel after the two of them came together in one of the outdoor rounds? Everyone thought that was awesome......
Didn't people bitch non stop because someone as awesome as Ryan Dungy wasn't aggressive enough when it mattered?
He just lost all hope of winning the title after winning both motos the previous week to pull within 3 points. I'm sure he's been riding his ass off trying to gain more speed.
All the effort, all the training, all the serious hard work from not only him, but the entire team just went up in smoke, at least as far as the title is concerned, because the bike died.
In the heat of battle, with all the adrenaline he could possible have, in that moment of "WTF just happened?", it was all gone.
Yes it's a professional sport, but it's still a sport.
I may still be kicking that damn bike if I were in that position, and I'm an old guy.
The Shop
Pretty sure it was Alessi, but what's the diff in this case (and I've had way too many concussions). I'm 63 and I would have had a bigger meltdown than Danger Boy.

Right. Not really a free pass when he's absolutely skewered over every move he makes. You want to talk about not remembering another rider like that, how about when's the last time a rookie got so much hate?
If you play to Win & it’s the only thing that matters. It’s normal & people Love to see emotion. That game I kicked the bubbler off the wall & threw it threw a mirror. Was bs a b level player at best a judges kid who’s dad paid the refs to foul me out. It was a discrase to the game. Teammates smashed shit fans in the stands did the same. D1 recruits where there they Loved it. It made me more huge. Bob knight used to throw chairs across the court & choke or rough his players up to get the intensity up. Bradshaw would throw rocks at photographers. Stanton would throw his bike on the ground as hard as he could in the pits after a big race. Too bad so many people hv no emotion now. Not everyone is numb & emotionless, a shadow of a person or a man.
I'd say the crowd is pretty evenly split but be honest...I haven't seen ONE post saying they HATE Deegan.
I've seen lots that CALL people "haters" for not adoring his every move. There's a difference.
Oh there are a few that show up in every thread that passive aggressively point out his flaws and every mistake...they even go as far as deleting posts when things don't go their way....the guy who tried to say that Deegan's first win wasn't really a win because he didn't win a Moto but says nothing when Deegan is the first rider to go 1-1or when Hunter goes 2-2 for a win....They may not come out and say they hate Deegan....but...
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the way he responded. He didn’t harm himself, he didn’t harm anyone else. He was just flooded with disappointment and frustration probably. Teens also experience emotions more intensely than adults. Now if he went over and started assaulting someone in the crowd because his bike broke, then yeah, that would be crossing the line. Lol.
I’m pretty sure that I’ve acted far worse for far less….……
…….multiple times and at greater ages!
How a sensible and mature teen handles a first moto blow up:

The difference is, he was in a championship race with his blood brother. Either way, that trophy will be on the mantle at home. The pressure the Lawrence brothers feel against each other, is way less, than when you are in a championship race against your arch rival.
Exactly right. Bear in mind these teams regularly try to blow up their bikes after winning championships.
Tell me you don't have a brother without telling me you don't have a brother haha
Yes the trophy would be on the mantle either way but the brother that won it would remind the other brother every single opportunity that it was him that put it there for the rest of their lives and each brother is VERY aware of that..
I think for most factory guys the buke is just a tool, not like us where we spend our own money buying a bike, lots more making it cool, we have an emotional investment in our bikes. For these guys who get free bikes, maintenance etc...its just a bike, next one up. Ever see golf clubs and tennis rackets thrown and broken? No one really complains about that?
hear, hear
Pit Row
I get his emotions and I don't think it was that out of line. But at the same time, in many other motorsports you would've gotten in a world of trouble for that kind of action by your team.
I guess I see both sides of this.
Kurt Kobain destroyed his guitars and I loved it.
Why does it bother some of you so much that a kid - who’s not yours - got pissed when his bike blew up and potentially cost him a $50k win bonus at best, and a $500k c-ship bonus at worst?
Young dude, in the title hunt in his rookie year, super high stress situation with a failure outside of his control, in a world where failure is a pretty bitter pill to swallow even at the best of times...
I don't like to see it, but I can understand it, can't really hold it against the guy if he learns from it.
Dunge! Not a great look my man! He throws his arms a bit...one could imagine the use of profanities as he walks with his dear mum. So unprofessional. Tisk tisk.
Actually...this video gives me goose bumps...Dunge was the man!
Kid is an entitled spoiled punk !!!
22:12 mark....Not a great look Rick Johnson and Jeff Stanton! Did this future mother and grandmother ASK to be covered in fluid from the both of you? Shes dressed to go to the lake, not go through some frat house hazing...
Actually....the 80's were awesome and i bet she loved the attention....also, I may or may not own a couple of High Point jerseys from that period.
Imagine throwing a temper tantrum like this at any other job when things don’t go your way.
What has he sowed? What has he done to make “karma” blow up his bike?
I kind of agree with you.
Haiden has just as much responsibility in his season loss. Time for some stats. Haiden only beat Hunter in 6 motos out of the first 16, and 2 of those were Hunter's DNF's. The other 4 were times at Hangtown moto 1, High Point moto 1, and both motos at Washougal. Haiden should be thankful Hunter had 2 DNF's or else he (and everyone else) isn't even in the title hunt.
I’m calling bullshiet on all you holier than tho guys who claim you wouldn’t have lost it in that situation.
Or maybe you’re just happy with mediocrity.
I wonder how many of you “get off my grass” guys were saying the same things about RJ, Bradshaw, RC, Stewy, or Langston when they all lost their tempers in public?
Or is this just a Deegan thing?
Talk about ghost riding your bike!....Mike Kiedrowski...not a great look my friend.
Imagine ghost riding your forklift into a co-workers forklift after he kiped your last decent pallet. That wouldn't fly.
Actually...here's a strong recommendation for your podcast pleasure. Go over to Pulp and listen to either Reraceable that Kiedrowski did with Steve and Weege, good stuff.
