I’ve had a few GoPro’s from earliest versions through 4k. They’re ok, but I’m wondering what others you guys have used that do a great job and might have advantages?
leaving for NY in a couple of weeks to a 50th reunion ride at a former national caliber track that has been resurrected just for the weekend. Zoar Valley in Springville, NY. I want to document the weekend as best as possible. This track is basically my entire childhood.
dji action 4.
better low light capability, has built-in optical zoom, bigger sensor, better audio and less prone to overheating.
I use a Insta360 x3. Good quality and easy to edit.
Works well in bad light.
Currently use a hero 8 with a chin mount, but im about to switch to the insta 360.
GoPro just released the 12, so you will be able to find some good deals on 10's and 11's now I would assume. I have heard the insta360 is pretty good as well.
The Shop
GoPro Hero 4 Black Edition. I record every lap.
It records what I need. This camera doesn't have motion stabilization, and personally, I like that.

I went ahead and ordered the dji Action 4 yesterday. Did some research and figured it would do a nice job.
The Insta360 cameras are awesome. with the ones that shoot 360 You can reframe the video very easily after shooting it. And it looks like a regular video that was taken by a drown or second person since You can move around and change angles after the video has been taken. Its not just for doing 360 videos for watching with VR goggles. But You can do that too. And go back and be able to turn your head and see what You would have seen if you did it while riding. You can take the raw footage and go back and make multiple videos that have different angles of the same thing. The image quality is not as good as a regular 4k camera after reframing . But its still HD and you can get amazing shots that are much more difficult to get with a regular camera. They are like having Your own cameraman/drone operator.
There’s actual talk of GoPro releasing an updated Max (360) soon.
hidden in the Hero 12 complaining, is a Bluetooth microphone feature. I’ll let the intrawebz figure it out, but I may be selling off an 11 to get that feature.
I waited 2 years for Gopro to come out with a new 360 camera. Insta360 has come out with a few in that time. For 360 cameras ,insta360 has the best software as far as easy to use and stable. Not sure if they all have it, but i know some have the Bluetooth mic as well. If I already had other Gopro branded cameras I might have stuck with a Gopro and got their 360. I really wanted to since they have a strong history and a bunch or regular cameras. But I'm happy with my Insta360. The only disappointment I have had so far is that it only records mono audio with external mics. I was surprised that none of the insta360 Cameras allow stereo audio with an external mic. I'm not 100% sure on the 360 from Gopro. But i think its the same deal.
Another vote for the DJI Action 4. Tired of the GoPro reliability and instability.
Action 4 has excellent quality and a nice default natural colour temperature. The magnetic clips are game changers. Excellent battery life! I purchased the Adventure combo on-sale which comes with a 3 place battery charging case and the Extreme cold batteries. I think all the batteries since the A4 release are the Extreme now. I use for MX, snowmobiling and SxS use.
PS. I had an Insta360 RS One previously, was not impressed. Have used GoPro's, but wanted something more reliable and with better battery life.
