Titanium is like crack. Since my surgery I’ve been stuck at home.  I’ve been scrolling sites, pulling hardware off my bike for measurements and, looking at OEM schematics. Washers, nuts, bolts, flange lengths, diameters, thickness, thread pitch etc. It’s one hell of a rabbit hole to go down. Not to mention time spent on the Honda parts interchange site was also time consuming.

On the plus side, I’ve started a log book to keep track of all this. 12 different tabs open on my phone to go back and forth with and, screen shots didn’t cut it. It took me several hours over 3 days to write down all the measurements of each piece of hardware on my bike. Like I said, I’m stuck at home and, pretty limited with what I can do.

As beautiful as titanium is, it’s just as expensive.
As of now, I have around $600 worth of it on my bike.
I spent just over $1000 tonight.
I came across a titanium coolant catch tank that i I thought was pretty cool. I was scrolling Pro Circuits site and, saw they had one that was available for back order.
After a little searching, I saw Race Tech Titanium had one in stock. Most of the riding I do is off-road/single track or, Poker Runs throughout the PNW. The last run I did was in Nachese. It was 108*. My bike got a bit hot and, started spitting coolant. I figured this was a welcome addition along with, a high pressure radiator cap.  Searched a quite a bit more between Race Tech Titanium, Mettec, Pro Bolt and, I’m done for now. I’ll post a few pics of the catch tank when I get it. I did grab some chain tensioner bolts, swing arm slider, rear brake line bolts, a countershaft sprocket bolt, m6 and m8 in various lengths and, several shoulder button bolts. The few pieces of hardware I grabbed that weren’t titanium was a front and, rear axle. My bikes old but, I try to take care of it.

I didn’t start this thread to talk about tweaking on hardware. I just figured I’d ask if anyone else has a titanium problem.  If so, what are your favorite pieces or, parts. Would you care to share pics?
Nothing spectacular but, here’s a few pieces.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone

Be careful, it may become a titanium/aluminum fastener and carbon fiber part problem!

The act of purchasing titanium dirtbike parts, can trigger a significant release of serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated with feelings of happiness and well-being. This process is often amplified by the shopping anticipation and excitement leading up to the purchase. In contrast, while adrenaline released during dirt bike riding produces a thrilling sensation, it doesn’t necessarily contribute to long-term happiness in the same way serotonin does.

Yeah I'm a Titanium addict.

Starts with a small bolt order out of curiosity, then leads to your entire bike being Ti including bolts no one can even see.

I got 80% of my Ti fix from Ebay, I found the quality to be really good and the look to be equal to stuff from all the big brands. I also found a few guys selling loads 2nd hand which saved a ton. Quick wizz over with a fine scotchbrite and the heads come up like new.

The key is to build it up slowly over time (unless you've got a lot of spare cash of course). I'd do 20 or so bolts a month, doesn't take too long to get majority of your bike done this way.

And to make it feel more justified, I've probably only had to bin 5 bolts max since I started 5 or so years ago. Ti lasts forever and you can take your stash from bike to bike.

The biggest perk though is that it just looks cool as f*ck

That’s exactly how I started. I just picked little areas to purchase the hardware for and, moved on to the next. Plastics, triple clamps, engine etc. Once I got started, I couldn’t stop. Every steel bolt has become a dingy eye sore.

You'll start looking at other eye sores on your bike, next thing you'll be polishing your suspension linkages!

Absolutely zero ROI, but whatever makes you happy.

Motocross bikes aren't an investment, there is no ROI!

Damien, I will send you some links for some juicy bits for your bike that are actually very reasonably priced.

I don't, but I very easily could have and I like seeing the bikes of all you folks who do 😂

I've got a handful of anodized aluminium nuts/bolts on bits with very low stress/not safety critical (I do include the rear brake master rod end/spherical bearing adjuster in this however). Few aluminium drilled washers about too.

I've got some low-head, button-head and normal cap head stainless Allen bolts with a little ceramic grease on the threads for stuff like clutch/ignition covers, power valve covers, engine mounts, etc, still bolts that have a fairly easy life. I also have some Stainless pointy boi footpegs as Ti wasn't justifiable to me at the time.

I do have a few Ti bolts and the rear brake tip I got in Ti as it's smaller/cheaper than a set of pegs but it still ties in 'ok-ish' with the stainless pegs I have.

So short answer no, I'm snail-slow and can't justify a load of titanium on a very average condition '17 125, but I do still try and make it presentable and I respect where you guys are coming from 🤘

Face it guys, being hooked on dirt scooters is a certain level of sickness in and of itself.  Getting strung out on expensive and trick parts is just a deeper level of our overall mental state.  😳😂😎

Yep I am too! I built my KX125 with all Titanium throughout - no steel left! All linkage bolts, wheel spindles, footpeg pints, caliper slider pins and pistons etc etc. All plastic mount bolts with drilled wide flanges the same as the PC bikes. Custom ally nuts. Most made custom by Phil Denton Engineering in the UK. Cost a few thousand but it doesn’t get any tricker!

Yes the titanium is very addictive, mine started with axles for my cr250 and slowly processing into every nut and bolt ti for my cr250 build.

I'm not trying to follow you around bigging you up Chuck, but your bikes are absolutely immense.

Last couple of years at UK Eco meetings or VMXdN have been eye openers and yours are RIGHT up there with anyone else's.

Anywho, great thread Chance, liking where this is going 👍
