Now stick with me because I have a (possibly out there) theory and before I get to it, I'll admit to being a fan of both bands.

For some reason I've been getting OG Miami Vice scenes popping up on my YouTube feed lately. It has put me in a really nostalgic mood. I started to think back to how cool of a show it was and then reading some YouTube comments and everyone talking about how much better the 80's were. I started thinking about how happy and upbeat people were, hair bands were the big thing with songs about pullin chicks and partying. We were getting further from the Viet Nam war, the Commies were going out of business, everyone was making money and there was a general feeling of anything is possible in the country. Life was good.

Then the early 90's come along with the grunge bands led by Nirvana and Pearl Jam and everything was about how bad everything sucks and a kid getting bullied wants to kill everyone. That led to the culture we have now with nose rings, blue hair and some doughy chick (thing) protesting for whatever whacko cause is in vogue.

Let’s not forget the A-Team. Blowing up stuff and, hitting guys over the head with a board to get them to fly in a helicopter.

I graduated high school in 1980. The next 10 years can never be beaten, or forgotten! Memories 🙂

Eddie always wore a green t shirt in the early days. To this day I always have at least one green tee in my dresser drawer.

Singles was a good movie. Did anybody else have a thing for Bridget Fonda?

Ruined is a bit of a strong term

He also thought spiking trees was(is?) cool. That Earth 1st tattoo has a story behind it.

I think the point, for me, is that these guys are a bit kooky and fancy themselves as Hippies of their era.

I know he’s had to answer for that tattoo on a coupl’a occasions and has loggers that think he needs a serious as beating for some of his “positions” on the matter.

Eh, I just tend to roll my eyes when pop stars think their opinions matter.

Speaking of beloved movie stars, here's Jane Fonda from 1981's On Golden Pond Silly

I like both bands and I think Alive is one of the best songs ever.  But!

I watched this last night and I couldn't get out of my head how much we have changed.  https://www.natgeotv.com/za/shows/natgeo/challenger-disaster-the-final-…

Watching it was crazy to me to see how we were different.  The national pride, our attitudes, all people, all ages, all races ect.  The words spoken by John Glenn to the NASA team and Ronald Reagan to the country were that of a true leaders.  There were no safe places, we did not cower, we came together with tough love and adversity.  It was an amazing documentary.

It is crazy to see, you can visually see it in this documentary, how we have let those in power divide us.

We were great and we did not let mediocrity define us as we do today.  Maybe it started with the bands, East Coast West Coast. In a sense, I get where you are coming from OP.

I had a buddy in 1990 describe Michelle Pfiefer as having "A hint of skank" and that he liked that. Here she is at 65 years old not rooning the world.

Stunning.

"Then the early 90's come along", along with the internet, the great societal ruiner. There was no reason to pick up a phone anymore, meet a friend, go anywhere, it all came to you.  Yep, the 80's were alright by me.

Nirvana....2nd worst band of all time.....right on the tails of Guns-N-Roses (#1).

Screaming isn't music.

Guys....  look in the mirror as you age.   You're no chiseled Adonis anymore either.   I actually felt bad for Bridgett when that photo went viral a few years back.  (and I'm no fan of Hollywood people)      The media  pushes youth and perfection, it puts them on a pedestal and when the flower wilts, they attack and viciously tear them down.      Many women lose their figure  as they age...as do men.    Sometimes due to lifestyle, sometimes due to biology.

BTW- just for the record, I fucking hate Jane Fonda.     ...and Peter Fonda is a gigantic phony POS.

As far as men and women aging we got them beat by a longshot. As men age we start to get more dignified and handsome, we start to look like Sean Connery. As women age they start to look more like Sean Connery.
