Guys,

MY UNDERSTANDING WAS INCORRECT --- IGNORE THE BELOW COMMENT!

MY UNDERSTANDING WAS INCORRECT --- IGNORE THE BELOW COMMENT!

The 2023 YZ450F parts fiche has been posted (I've seen it at RMATV and Partszilla), so you can now try the lowered 2023 YZ450F footpeg mounts on 2018-2022 YZ450Fs. You'll find them on the "Frame" sheet, Tag #s 2 and 3. They are about $50 per bracket, saving you ~ $250 over titanium options from Works Connection, etc.

My understanding per Keefer's testing and the 2023 YZ450F launch is that the new footpeg mounts will fit the 2018-2022 YZ450F and lower the footpegs -5mm down and -5mm rearward. His tested and preferred setting for 5'8" and taller riders is -7mm down and -5mm back, so you'd still be 2mm high (but the same -5mm back), BUT it's really really close and less than $100 to try. I've ordered a set, so I'll post what I think when I get around to trying them. My prediction is: "I couldn't tell a difference. At. All." We'll see!

Per Keefer:

Kris Keefer Digs into Specifics All-New 2023 Yamaha YZ450F - Racer X (racerxonline.com)

"KEEFER: Probably one of the most important upgrades the Yamaha needed right here! The current 2022 rider triangle is atrocious and needed work. Yamaha went to a -5mm back/-5mm down footpegs and went +5mm on the seat. They also lowered the airbox and got rid of the air ducts in the shrouds. I personally went to a -7mm down/-5mm back footpeg setting on my 2022 YZ450F with great results, so seeing the update for 2023 ensures the bike will automatically feel much better for medium-to-larger sized riders. The bar mounts will also be set in the rear hole mounted forward, which is right where I like it!"

-and-

Here's what Keefer and Works Connection arrived at for the "ideal" setting regarding aftermarket footpeg brackets:

Playing around with Kawi heights over the years, if you don’t notice it i would be very surprised.

Agree. It’s pretty wild how much you can notice only a few millimeters. I modified my  03 kx250 pegs the change was probably about 5 and 5 and it opened up the cockpit a bunch.

I went with the WC lowering brackets and have been very happy. If you go oem or Keefer, that’s up to you, but this is a major improvement to the bike.

Did he try the mounts to see if they would lower the pegs on the 18-22 models, or did he say they are just lower? They could have changed the frame to lower the pegs also.

I bought the Raptor -5 down, -5 back for my 22' - I like it a lot @ 6'1" tall.  -7, -7 would probably be better tho.

I purchased the new brackets and will know shortly. The new pegs are also a different part number, so TBD. But I did read somewhere the brackets are dimensionally different - this is what sent me down this path because I wanted to keep my current pegs (FasstCo Impact pegs).

I'm assuming these brackets would work for the 19-23 250f's as well?

I finally just had to look. You are correct, same part #s between 2022 yz250f and 450

Awesome! I've definitely wanted to give the lowered brackets a try but never wanted to fork over the $300+ dollars for the works connection ones. I'm ordering a set of these for sure

I thought I heard keefer say the works connection mounts won’t fit on the 23. Also the 23 raptor pegs are a new part number. I’m assuming there’s something different and they might not fit the old frame.

May not fit the older frames.

Did you get a chance to try them yet?

As soon as I placed the order, it indicated they were on backorder. The got me! Laughing

As soon as I get he 2023 parts, I'll pull the brackets from my 2020 and compare them side-by-side (take pics, etc.) and post here.

Still sitting on my workbench, sorry. Will try to address this weekend.

I won't be able to ride here (Colorado) for a few months likely, but if the footpeg mounts fit AND are different enough dimensionally, I will keep them to try.

More to come when I have time!

BAD NEWS ---> 2023 YZ450F OEM Footpeg Brackets DO NOT fit 2018-202 YZ450F Footpegs!

I attempted to put footpegs from my 2020 YZ450F into the 2023 YZ450F OEM footpeg brackets tonight and they did not fit. The pin section of the older-style footpegs is wider than the 2023 YZ450F OEM brackets and will not fit. See measurements I took in the below pictures. Additionally, when I checked Fastway's website, I noticed that they do not yet offer footpegs for the 2023 YZ450F.

Guys, I am really sorry for this bad info on my part!

Also note that I ***THOUGHT*** I heard or read somewhere that the footpegs mounts were compatible. Keefer never said or printed this and I cannot find where/what originally caused me to think this. Anyone who was impacted by my bad info, please contact me at: VitalMX123@outlook.com

Fastway has footpegs for every Yamaha mx/off-road model EXCEPT the 2023 YZ450F. I'll be calling Fastway to confirm that the 2023 YZ450F uses new footpegs and that they are designing their aftermarket offering now.

So it looks like they will mount to the frame and you can use 2022 foot pegs???

No, the xx-2022 footpegs definitely do NOT fit the 2023 mounting brackets. The footpegs are too wide to fit within the mount's channels. See images above. There are also standoff features inside the older footpeg mounts that are not present on the 2023 YZ450F pegs, so that's an additional aspect of incompatibility.

I was considering trying the new brackets with new footpegs, but at that point it's getting pretty expensive ... and the keyword is TRYING. I have no idea if what I just said would work ---> And we know my track record on this ... I wouldn't bet on me at this time, would you?! Tongue

Hey man, reading through your post as a tall rider I’ve been looking to find a much more economic way to fix the rider triangle…is that new part (48) number a lower bracket than stock? I just got a ‘23 FX and feel like I’m almost hanging over the bars. TIA!

This experiment was a bust. The 2023 YZ450F footpeg mounts are not compatible with the previous generation footpegs.

I'd buy a GYTR tall seat and the Works Connection brackets and call it a day. If those aren't enough, you might install lowered pegs as well for the double whammy.

I have the gytr tall seat and WC pegs. I can attest that this is a good combo.

Seems brackets fit mounting holes but space for foot peg is just smaller? So new brackets and new pegs will fit and be -5mm, -5mm?

I am not sure, sorry. I gave up when I saw older footpegs wouldn't work since I already have $300 into footpegs.

Any new developments on the Yamaha peg situation? Love my 450FX , but it is honestly really killing me, it feels like a minibike. so, so cramped.

I have a "tall" Guts seat....it is a little taller than the stock waffle-thick seat but does not help much

Also wanted to mention that I have been in touch with WC and they will be offering the lowering brackets in aluminum at some point, likely summer 23. I don't know why the aftermarket has been so slow to address this problem, for taller riders it is a glaring flaw with otherwise really good bikes
