I'd almost venture to guess that when it comes to actually racing, more members here might actually race off road events than Moto events from what I see people talking about.

A believe you answered the question yourself I see a decent amount of off-road post here, and a lot of people race both. Just because they are 2 different disciplines doesn’t mean they can’t be discussed on the same message board. That’s like saying there should be a separate board for trail mountain bike riding and enduro mountain bike riding, 2 different disciplines that can be done on the same bike. Nothing short of live fire stops people these days. Gotta know they're there first though. I'm guessing the size of club helped in this case. So much coming and going that pulling out of there with a trailer in plain sight doesn't even get noticed as unusual.

I’d like to see a near full race frame with a simple air cooled 4 stroke. Open chamber forks and slightly simpler shocks (double adjustments instead of triple), 250 and 400cc, basically a new XR400-250. I’m getting closer to the point where race bikes are too much, but I don’t want to quit trail riding. Oh yeah, maybe a 250-300 2 stroke would work for me too.. maybe one of the Japanese companies could build one? I heard a rumor about that a long time ago, but it must have been BS..

Maybe not simpler, but certainly simpler to maintain, less maintenance intensive and more reliable....I think a lot of folks forget back when we had "trail" 4T's like XR's, DR's and XT's....change the oil couple times a year, never worry about a top end for the life of the bike....sadly missing in todays world. I'd take a simple motor like that in a modern frame today.

Fair point, but the Japanese always had excellent engineering. I've not seen much in the automotive/motorcycling realm from China that I would classify as "excellence" in either engineering or metallurgy. A friend who owned a small motorcycle shop essentially made his living for years swapping out laughably bad wheel bearings on Chinese-made Honda knock-offs with decent Japanese or American made bearings. Maybe they'll figure it out.

That HRC hose looks way too tight. The other 2 have a nice "service loop" as us cable guys call it. No give at all means just a matter of time really. Always give everything on the handlebars a little slack or you will pay a price.

Yea, I’m not at much risk when I’m on my phone versus flying through the air on a bike where a part failure could cause serious injury. I guess my phones battery could explode.. but yes your point is taken. China is about to leave us in the dust over the next century imo.

There is a difference between products made in China and Chinese branded products. Western brands sourcing from China generally have higher quality specs because they sell for a higher price while Chinese brands consistently target the affordable, lower quality segment of the market. The Chinese factories can crank out either one. Thar being said, the Japanese are the perfect template for Chinese brands to follow in transitioning from low quality to high. They mastered it in the 70s
