I agree. However what about the other Factory Suzuki pilots at the time. World Champ Harry Everts, World Champ Eric Gebeors. Barnett's Yamaha nemesis Broc Glover, 3x champ. Kiedrowski won 2 national 125 titles, almost won a third. The list goes on.

Come on please..... Stewart goes down in the first turn and is last +10 seconds and the still passes the field and wins the race by a nice margin !!! or

Stewart is running first by a mile, then STOPS to let second place Reed go bye, just so he can re-pass him and stop the Reedy excusses !!

Nobody was faster than JS259 on a 125.

Were you even alive in the 70's and 80's?

I was. Started watching pro MX before there was a 125 class. Shot this at perhaps the best set of motos I've ever seen.

Stewart's at the top of the 125 list. Like I said, there are some incredible riders behind him, some I would rank as better racers on bigger bikes (if not faster),, but as to 125s he's the man

good thing the internet didn't exist... there might be a thread about track prep. holy shit. Those 'doos are enough to swallow an 80cc whole.

Maybe Team USA should have gone to the old Plymouth Hangtown track in the run up to the Mxdn @ Lommel!Wink

Stewart was good, but guys like Geboers, Harry Everts, Gaston Rahier were badass..............so many great battle's and world titles.Wink

Mike Brown cuts out Stewart's front tire at the start of Moto 1 Broome Tioga. Two laps later Stewart passes Brown.

Stewart loses his front brake but it doesn't stop him from tracking down Langston for a Unadilla win.

Stewart was a beast in the 125 class even when he competed against the 250f riders

This thread is funny. We all get a feeling of nostalgia when we see, smell, hear or mention a 125. Maybe its like our first girl friend, the 125 is what we learned on and gained experience with. 30 years later we think about that old girl friend from time to time with positive memories.

As for the best buck twenty fiver, as a kid I loved wathcing Micky Dymond ride in the 80's. If my memory is correct, Guy Cooper (Air Coop) rode a 125 in the early 90's and was fun to watch. Remembering Johnny O obiliterate the field on a 125 was cool. But, on a 125 there is no matching the intensity and the talent like Stewart.

That is a good shot. However I am not sold on JS as the best 125 pilot. It is all debateable. I am sold on pre-internet riders. I enjoy seeing those old vids on youtube.

Yeah, yeah, we all walked uphill five miles in deep snow both ways to school back then . . .

The debatable part is the fun, or can be. I think it gets ugly when people feel like crediting one guy takes something away from another.

Gaston Rahier, Harry Everts,Alessio Chiodi,Broc Glover, Mark Barnett,Ricky Carmichael,, all have 3 titles, James Stewart had 2, but the most 125 wins US Nats..

This thread really makes me yearn for yesteryear. The sound of a pro 125 race was just unreal. Some of the fastest riders in the world would choose to race the 125 class because that's the class they preferred. It wasn't a feeder class like today. Top talent would be divided up outdoors. Some guys went 125, some 250 and others 500. It really was a golden era.

first off.... That is my favorite moto week ever. We camped thur-mon. Everyone I knew raced am day. Vick Curly introduced me to my moto hero Marty Smith that week, I was 12 and raced an XR-75 at the time. That one week was enough to make me fall in love with moto for life.

Unfortunately you just can't compare one era's accomplishments with another. With that said, I see it this way. What made RC and JS moto's so good was they were equally crazy and would not be one up'd Period. Anyone that thinks you could one up guys like Hannah isn't thinking straight.
12/20/2012 11:25am
oh.... And I would Love to see Stewey and Magoo on equally prepped 125's throw done while both were 18 and preferably on vintage 125's so no one gets killed.

pastrana was crazy fast on the 125 for his size! roncada was a very good 125 rider too- tortelli, brown, lamson stewart.

what about malin? he did pretty well on a 125 at the des nations in 94- that was one hell of a ride!

chiodi was a great 125 rider! and tallon vohland too

it would be amazing to see stewart go back on a 125, just a shame that theres no class they can be competetive in now

And while he may not be king of the 125's, after Mike Brown came back from his stint in Europe, he was hauling ass. His corner speed was amazing. Watching those guys pushing a 125 to it's limits there at the end competeing against the 250F's was the best motocross ever had to offer. The end was near and the writing was on the wall. So, a giant middle finger up to the AMA and the OEM's for taking away the best racing ever. Nothing else compares to the 125 class.

Hey man, I like your little paintings and all, but you absolutely, positively throw in a mxdn jab at EVERY given opportunity, which is comical, considering where GB finished.
