So I haven't swung a leg over a bike in almost two years and recently decided to buy a new bike and get back out there. I knew that buying a new 450 was going to be a costly venture and took that into consideration in my decision to buy. I looked all over and found decent OTD prices on 2018 models around $8k.
However, I just couldn't bite the bullet and spend that kind of cash on a DIRTBIKE, so I walked away from the purchase and decided to hit up the ol craigslist for a used machine that I could turn into a fun project. I'm a Kawi guy so I started searching for 250 two strokes. After a couple weeks of searching I found a 2003 that I picked up for $1,700.
Tires were down to nothing and cracked, throttle cable was frayed and it would run Wide Open upon turning left, it was soaked in ten year old oil and dirt from all over the state of CA and was seriously neglected. After looking at new bikes, this was quite the change and I was a bit nervous when I drove off with it.
So I took the bike home, tore it down to the frame and started the process. Cleaned all the hardware, all the parts, tore into the motor and found a new clutch (score!) and a top end that was in surprisingly great shape with good compression. After a shopping spree on Motosport Outlet and using some spare parts in my garage, I finished the bike and am quite happy. Here are the pics...
So needless to say I am pretty stoked on the bike. All in I am at about $2800 and ready to have some fun.
This sport doesn't need to break the bank and this proves you can still get out on a budget. See you dudes out there.

People say you can make the stock suspension working pretty good.
Great looking bike for sure, considering one of those also, had an 01 and 02. just got back into riding again and bought a 09 250f for a song, but still want a 2 stroke to make the panties drop.
