Anyone here think the new Dunlop mx 53 fronts are garbage, I got one after Reading all the hype on them and really wanted to like them but think they are really bad. This is for bush /woods riding I found they are no good with grip on tree roots or off camber hills and will slide out with no warning .has anyone else had a similar experience or just me. I also have a 53 rear and think it's a great tyre but the front is almost
dangerous
dangerous
I have almost new 53's on a spare wheel set now but Im going to take them off, the MX 33 front and rear seems to be my favorite now.
Stil have to try it in the woods and mx though...
On the front the best thing you can do is mount a mid soft 32.😉
The Shop
I run them in the front out in the Dez or on true 'Hard Pack' & they work pretty damn good. For all other conditions, I think Dunlop fans should probably run the 33 frt.
My normal set-up is 33 front/53 rear.
However...the BEST "all around" tire for my money? Metzeler Mid-Softs for about $145/set delivered to my door from RMATVMC. These tires work well everywhere. The comaparable Pirellis are the same story (Same company). Also, Metzeler/Pirelli bibs are excellent.
Pirelli's rear sand tire is the ULTIMATE sand tire. I can even get away with running it out in the dunes!
In sizes for my FE350 (110/100-18 rr): $136.36 (Just checked RMATVMC: $122.98 ORDERED THEM!)
These tires LAST and they even work suprisingly well at places like Pala & Glen Helen.
All the while...a set of Dunlop 33s from MotoSport:
450 SXF 19" rear: $180 (80/100 frt & 120/80 rear)
Or...and get this! This is INSANE: $215 (80/100 frt & 110/90 rear) this is a HELL NO!
Or... $189 (80/100 MX33 frt & 80/120 MX53 rear)
Or... $169.65 (80/100 MX33 frt & 80/120 MX53 rear) at RMATVMC! Save that MONEY!
Last spring I ran a Bridgestone 204 rear and it was EXCELLENT! It was AWESOME at Glen Helen & Pala...and then I went out to the Super Secret riding area west of Edwards AFB (As seen in Haakers latest Vlog)...and that tire KICKED ASS out there in the Snow, in the Hard-Pack, in THE ROCKS, in the Sand, in the MUD...we even had plenty of pavement! I had to ride over a Dryer Drum: It hooked up! I had to ride up a few water-falls...Braaaap! It hooooooked up!
The tire was crazy good!
That tire KICKED ASS; but, it's virtually impossible to find, so...I'm gonna try it's replacemnt, the X20. It's $78.88 at RMATVMC & I've heard good things from a few friends that've run it.
I'll report back when I do.
In December I'm gonna ride The Rip to Cabo...pretty sure I'll run the Pirelli's or Metzelers for that.
Note: I've had local shops match RMATVMC and MotoSport prices...like Fators or Lee's in Redding...even 3 Bros in OC.
Pit Row
Stew Baylor seems to like them in GNCC recently:
Goiing to try some Bridgestone x 20's for winter soon though, and maybe a dunlop mx 12 scoop rear, would be interesting to see how that goes
