Most helmet pads have liners that get thinner as the size goes up. Imagine the cheek cavity is pretty close to the same size throughout the line of helmet sizes. This is because the shell size variation is not that big and mfgs use the eps (Styrofoam) to account for changes in head size. The cavity between your cheek and the inside of the helmet has no or very little eps lining, so the thicker cheek pads make up the difference for smaller heads. That's why the 40mm are considered a smaller size.
Mostly, yes. EPS (expanded polystyrene) is the most important factor in any helmet. Cheek pads and liners are more for custom tailoring the fit of the helmet while shell sizes are the bigger adjustment. Most helmets usually have 2-3 different shell sizes per model.

JT my email is full from notifications on this FLY Gear post. I mean I'm not salesman but sure seems like all this publicity/advertising warrants some commission in the form of some deep discounts or free stuff!

Haha, I'm kidding! Seems like everyone wants free stuff these days. I grew up on a farm and raised pigs so I have always had to work my ass off for everything I have (especially motocross stuff) and it feels better that way!

Hopefully this spring/summer I get back to riding a few times per week and can justify picking up a new set of gear! I'm a huge fan of Kinetic Vector Mesh and Lite Hydrogen. For now I guess my jeans and hoody/t-shirt will have to suffice...I actually picked up some cheap One Industries from BTO when it was deeply discounted a year or two ago.

Here are some old pictures from my 125 2 stroke days. Excuse me and my redneck/hillbillyness, we had a backhoe and a farm so a motocross track seemed to be the best way to ride on a daily basis and there wasn't always time to get dirty gear clean before riding!

And thankfully I had a solid suspension from Brayton's 03 CR125 arenacross bike!

I bet if you show Justin the pictures of that bike he will recognize it. I had to take off the 114 before the first race on it so I didn't get too much shit. I did ride it around for a while with the 114 on it and felt pretty legit. I couldn't justify those expensive numbers for myself..haha.

I've riddin in fly for years. Their gear is top of the line no questions about it, and it's really cheap. All of the dealers around me carry it because of those to reasons. I've switched from fly to one industries so I could have matching gear for the first time ever. The only downside I've found to fly is the sleeves are really big and loose fitting, compared to the one industries stuff I have now which is tighter fitting in the arms and shoulders. But that also could be different from one model of fly gear to the next.

Check out the difference in how low the sleeves hang ^^^^

Damn, did you even let Santa get up the chimney before you geared up?

Yes I agree. Fly gear is the equivalant of Moose, Ocelot or that stuff you see on eBay when you search for motocross gear and sort by cheapest price first. You know the stuff. I think a rider looks more credible in jeans and a flannelette shirt. Try Fox, Shift, Thor or Seven gear first.

Your Welcome.

You're entitled to your opinion but you know what they say about opinions. I would sincerely invite you to try some current Fly stuff and give me your honest opinion afterwards. I bet it works better than jeans and a flannel.

Oh and thanks.
What if the jeans where true region and the flannel shirt was burberry?

I would agree with you in 2011/2012, when this gear was released. Luckily, we have made many changes to the fit of the gear nowadays (and the look), specifically the current line you see guys wearing today (2016 season). The sleeve issue was adjusted directly, along with some other cut corrections.

I'm happy to say that comparing the gear pictured to what we carry 4 years later is apples to oranges.

I just got a set of the EVO 2.0 gear, and I have to say it is incredible. Best gear I've ever had. Try it...you will like it.

How does the Fly stuff fit an athletic build with hockey ass? I'm a pretty fit 41 year old but I have big shoulders and big legs/ass from a lifetime of hockey. I wear 36 pants and XL jerseys most of the time but some stuff (Fox and Shift most notably) I have to go up a size because the legs and shoulders are too tight but then the waist is huge and doesn't stay up and the stomach area of the shirt looks like a parachute.

This is exactly my issue, just not the same age HAHA. Only other issue I have is the dreaded nipple rub. The day after riding a feel like a mother with a teething baby
