Since I love these topics myself I decided to post my own rebuild. Didn't know what part of the forum that was the best suited for it, since Moto-Related seems like the one most visited and I've seen many builds in here I went for it. Thought about waiting to start the thread until I've come a bit further on the project but couldn't hold it anymore.
Picked up this bike a couple of weeks ago dirt cheap off a friend. It's been sitting in his garage for years.
Couldn't wait to pick it apart, not even the camera man was ready.
It's an -04 in pretty stock condition except for a Doma pipe that has more rust attached to it than an old Mercedes.
There is a lot of beautilful Honda rebuilds in here. I aim to build a competitive and cheap weekend warrior scooter. So not many fancy upgrades will be done. I started with picking everything a part and my goal was to do the most boring parts first, my theory is if I wait with the boring stuff they won't get done. But it turned out all the parts came a part nicely. Both previous owners are car builders and works as mechanics so everything was greased and lubed. Even though all the bearings in the linkage was toast. At least the bolts came out right away. Even the swing arm bolt slided right out without using a massive sledge.
Cleaning went down early on the list and decide what parts that needed to be ordered.

The Shop
The bike has only been ridden about 3 hours since 2011 and not washed once. My friend washed it before he dropped it off at my place, so I don't have any pictures of what it looked like. But I got some kind of idea. I probably shaved off a couple of pounds just cleaning the frame.
I think I'll give the Doma pipe a chance and try to clean it up just to stay on budget. But I'm looking for a silencer. What is the way to go? Saw that BUD racing has a really neat one. But a safe card is always a Shorty. Looking for a budget way to do the wheels, got a great deal on a set of gold rims. But I hate lacing and truing with old spokes.
My goal is to stay way under $2000 on this project. Spent about $1000 for the bike alone. Second hand bike prices in Sweden is way off. First off there's only ONE CR250R for sale in the whole country. And when you find one they want silly money for it.
Looking forward to seeing it all come together.
The made me a fully custom gripper seat cover for my yz250f and it's really good I highly recommend them. They are in Italy so shipping shouldn't be a huge issue
Not sure about my opinion about hydro dip. The stuff looks clean but honestly it shows too well it's not real carbon.
I've thought about the Scalvini route, but I've heard a lot of stories about bad fitment. Will definetly look into the silencers.
Have got some job done and will drop off some more pictures tomorrow or monday.
My biggest concern right now is the wheels. It sits right now with a stock 36 spoke front wheel and a Talon 36 spoke rear wheel with gold hub and gold rim, but the rim is so blasted it's silver. Since Honda use a 32 spoke rear wheel stock it leaves the options for changing hub/rim a lot slimmer. Thought about picking up a set of red hubs and sandblast the rear wheel silver. But can't find a 36 spoke hub for Honda anywhere. The wheels aren't in a very good shape either. Will not drop 800-1000 on wheels when it's the amount I spent on the full bike. So my only option right now is gold rims and use the hubs I've got.
I'd Nickel plate the Hubs and hard Anno the rims black. It cost me bugger all to do that here. The Nickel looks classy IMO. Do your triple clamps and foot pegs, spring and pins as well. Bling Bling!!
I also had a linkage and my brake callipers done in Nickel.
Hydro dipping. That didn't go so well.
That Scalvini bracket is great. If you want your silencer mounted directly above your rear tire that is.
I'd normally suggest PC, but for the Doma pipe, the BUD silencer might be the go.
I can lace and tru my own wheels, just need to find a guy that can do the paint. Is it expensive do it? Or will I get off cheaper with selling the stock wheels and go by a new set of SM Pro or similar? I might get about 2-300 for the stock rims and SM Pro sells for about 700.
Powder coating might be a good option for you . Won't cost a lot more than paint if the paint is done by a pro.
I have a mate who's an Industrial painter and does my stuff for free. The paint he uses is Incredibly durable. No Idea what it is though sorry. He does sand blast everything first as well which would help it hold up I suppose.
Is the front Hub billet as well? If so, You can use draino crystals to strip the anno and then just polish them up with an SOS pad.
Same with the Rims. I'd say both will be hard Anno. Just keep your eye on it, without breathing in the fumes LOL. When It's ready it will start to go black but the SOS pad makes very light work of that. Just don't leave it in too long.
You may have to repeat the process with hard anno.
You can also use HD oven cleaner. On hard anno that will take a few goes at it though.
Pit Row
It's been a while since I cleaned a carb so I just picked it a part to get up to date.
And the front end is coming together with a set of Öhlins 47, new bars, new design front fender and a Sunline clutch assy. I needed new grips and a new throttle tube so I went the Emig Locks route, which btw is genius and so simple. And because I'm extra alpha I had to go for pink grips to tone down my mascularity a notch.
The pipe is a bitch, period.
Did my first ever baking soda blast. Worked better than expected. But my closest supermarket only sold tiny cans of it so I just bought 500gr of it, and it was obviously not enough.
I prefer the Yellow TLD graphics. Not as common either
Picked up a set of Öhlins decals at my local Öhlins shop today. Probably only good thing about living in Sweden, there's a Öhlins shop in every town. The front plate is not mounted, it just stands on top of the fender to see what it will look like.
This is what they looked like when I got them.
What they look like mounted.
I use Danger UK. They do a top job, can do chromed colours and they are really well priced IMO.

Smezmx put me onto them. Been using them for around 12 months now and am really happy with the service etc. I've bought about 6 custom graphic kits in that time.
Not sure how the currancy conversion works for you though.
