As I recall, your's was one of the 07 models? And I don't think it's any mystery that KTM had some crank issues with the early ones that they took care of under warranty and made necessary changes to correct. Our 08 has been flawless.

I had a brand new 1978 YZ80 that Yamaha replaced the frame on because it crack and split in 13 places. The raplacement frame, with the gusset kit installed did the same. Damn POS Yamaha's, no one should ever buy one again.
it was an 08, and after it blew, they installed 09 parts, twice, then installed a complete turn key 2009 engine.

The crank went 1 time, the other 2 were piston rings getting caught on the exhaust port and exploding. The KTM rep told me it was a design flaw, but also said some people never had a problem. Everyone else that I know personaly has had the exact same thing happen to theirs as well. If you go to KTMtalk.com, and search, there are pages and pages of this problem. It's no secret.

Like I said, no mystery that the early ones were eating cranks. Was pretty widely publicized back then. Like they did for you, they took care of it for most everyone else as well. Good on KTM for that.

KTM stands behind their product better than any of the japs. I have worked with.

I have an 08 that was upgraded to the 150. Never had a problem with the motor. Had a small clutch issue and while they had it at the dealer they put a whole new motor in the bike. KTM has the best customer service of ANY manufacturer.

Easily the most enjoyable bike I have ever ridden as well.

no problems with my '11, not much time on it though. I love it, motor is small bore heaven, handles fine, brakes are perfect, looks sick... I used to be a ktm hater, thought they were goofy, not no more, this thing is badass

I loved and miss my '08 144. I had a crank bearing issue, KTM took care of it, and the bike was incredible ever since. Most fun bike I've owned...

For a young rider or developing rider the 150 SX is a great step up from a 105 or 85, many lighter riders I have seen go backwards in their development hopping on a 250f because thats all the see running in the class and they just don't have the size or muscle to control the bike like they did on their 85.

2 strokes teach corner speed, 4 strokes make you lazy.

I own a 2008 KTM 144 (150) and it's honestly the best bike I've ever owned! It rips that's for sure! Here's some pictures of it! Soon I'm looking to convert the front end of it to a 2016!

I bought a 08 144 this spring as a spare bike/something to play on. The only problem is last weekend my lap times averaged within a second of my 2014 crf450..... Now the question is do I keep the 450

IMO no. Keep riding the 144 and you might even be faster on it

That thing looks sick! I have a blown up 08 144 in the garage and after reading the first two pages I considered just parting it out lol but after seeing yours I might just put the new bottom and top in her!

YZ80E, was a great introduction into MX for me, white with red tank decals of course!,
Must be different customer service policy for the US, here in OZ all i got was a gusset kit that i had to have installed by a competent welder..

The same here, lots of 07's 144,s with crank issues, not many escaped the carnage.
They did look fast as they went past!

Sell the 450 and 08 144 and get a 2017 SX 150 when they become available!

I have had 2010 150 SX and my current ride is 2013 150 SX. These bikes are really fun to ride but it's hard to keep up with 250f's. You have to have correct gear all the time and carry momentum in the corners. My -13 has been almost bullet proof so far. Just keep changing pistons and clutch plates regularly.

Thanks!! Yeah I just threw in the wrench rabbit for mine two weeks ago! So it has a fresh hot rods bottom end and a vertex top end! Only cost $430 and the kit includes all new seals, bearings, gaskets, top/bottom end, etc.

Just traded my '09 KX250F for a '14 150 sx today. Back two the two stroke. I liked the 4 stroke but the maintenance costs became too much of an issue on the kx.

I rode a brand new 2016 crf250 back to back with my bone stock yz125, the crf did not have a whole lot more on top, although i felt itpulled harder on jump faces so maybe it was putting out more torque. Either way i wasnt super impressed as far as peak power, but the honda pulled mad hard off the bottom.

TL;DR:
Pretty sure the 150sx will pull a 250f up top.

I would love to have one of those but I already know I would have trouble keeping my two sons off of it.

After reading through this old thread I only have one question, What happened to R-ACER?
