cleaned up and/or has the local area been upgraded?
Quite the shit hole surrounding the birthplace of Supercross. I remember the environment surrounding the colisium was so sketchy that the factory teams refused to return and race there again. At least that was the narrative back then.

Why? California is a confirmed turd factory. These are facts. I can't believe the moto industry hasn't left that state. Or better yet the people that are fed up with the people in power making it worse.

Still a bad area. And the homeless have added another layer of danger/sketchiness to the gang problem. Don’t park off site, don’t walk to the venue, and try not to get car jacked. 👍

That area is bad, most areas in la county are shit. Have you drove down the 10 lately going towards Palm Springs? It’s a homeless city with port potties! I left a year ago and couldn’t have made a better choice for my wife and kids!

Coming from someone who works all over LA, it's definitely not bad. A lot of newer apartments for college kids there so they have taken over the area more and more. I go to the Shrine for concerts quite a bit which is down a block and never have issues.

Don’t listen to this guy who actually is in the area, listen to the people in the fly over states who obviously know much better Laughing

Not all of California is like LA and San Fran lol I love when people say shit like this. Same people that say this shit are the same ones paying for Moto vacations here every winter. Whats even better is the people saying the industry here is dead because star moved to Florida. Regarding the area of the coliseum, its been cleaned up a lot since the 90's. Its pretty much on campus of USC, so it can't be a shit hole. Just don't go on the east side of the freeway and you'll be fine.

I'm definitely not giving California any money. But that's me. As J-Law said, "California sucks, the dirt sucks the tracks suck, the chicks are blown out."

PS: Found a homeless guy only a block away on google maps...just sayin.

Because Minnesota would never be a turd factory now would it?

Such an ignorant statement.....from someone who's probably never set foot here.

Yes, in California there are areas you do not want to go or need to be very careful....just like ANY other state.

View from my California playground....

Parked in an alley nearby when I attended a Metallica concert in 2003. I wasnt driving and thought it was a horrible idea. Not my car though, so fuck it.

All I remember from there is a guy dressed like a stereotypical pimp got out of a Cadillac near by. We just kept to ourselves and walked quickly to the stadium. Car was fine when we returned that night.

I have no idea what that area is like 19 years later. I'm less than an hour away, but I haven't had a reason to go back.

Edit: I will say I still love CA, for everything it offers. Affordability is obviously a huge factor for how much fun you can have here.

Lol...that was the last time I was at the coliseum too. I think Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit opened....awesome show!

I parked on some dude's lawn a few blocks away for $20 and a joint. He didn't ask for the joint, but he sure did appreciate it. After the show he was sitting in his lawn chair right next to my rig high off his ass. Best $25 I ever spent on parking!

The nearby surrounding area has been pretty gentrified since USC has been buying it all up so it really isn’t anymore dangerous than any other big city. Doesn’t mean it’s a crime-free paradise, it’s still a large city so crime is inevitable. Practice basic safety procedures like being mindful at night and I’m sure you’ll be fine.

The Coliseum finished a $315-million renovation in 2019 so it’s quite a bit different than 40 years ago. Realistically there are “sketchier” stops on the SX schedule but that’s just the world we live in.

The show was definitely good! I've been to a lot of shows over the years and I don't remember much about many, but that '03 one was one of the more memorable outings.

Atlanta always seems to come up as a garden spot when SX is there.

I hope to never have to return to Atlanta in my life.

Been to a lot of "big cities" around the country for work and Atlanta is hands down my least favorite. I like to pick on SoCal but man....Atlanta is just a S&%! hole.

Crime in the last 4 weeks surrounding the coliseum. The purple dots are auto theft. I think it has improved since the 90s.

Last time I was there we had a couple of encounters with the brothers of Figueroa after the race, but I dropped my shorts and they ran like hell. I guess they got a glimpse of my junk...prolly scared the hell out of em. 😜

I go when I have to. I take anyone in my family if they need to go there, I don't let them go by themselves. But I used to work in welding automation and went to every state east of the Mississippi and then some. Most major cities have some pretty sketch areas too (especially Minnesota). Remember, back in the day, a girl was murdered in the LA Coliseum neighborhood after the Supercross, walking to her car after the event.

Don’t live far away, but I avoid LA at all costs since I really have no reason or want to go there. My pops works in the area pretty often and said it has definitely cleaned up quite a bit over the last few years. With that said, it is LA so you can’t really be surprised with what goes on down there.

Last time I was at the colisium was 1978,raced the amateur day, was cool jumping out of the peristyle down into the stadium. We chained all of our bike together and to our open trailer. as bikes were being stolen by the locals, as we were driving out we could hear two strokes in the distance being ridden in the neighborhoods. Might have to take a trip back and check out the SMX

Sure it's crackhead central around there, but hell back in the late 80's we would park in some crackheads front yard and hand them the keys to my new Mustang GT. did it several times, never had a problem, even crackheads don't shit in they're own nest!

BobbyM. Socal will always have a problem with homeless and mentally ill people mainly or simply because of the amazing weather here. Cities from other states send their homeless and schizophrenia mental people here because they all have a better chance of survival due to our nice weather here. It’s not just because of California politics and such. The closer towards our beaches the worst the problem is because of the amazing weather near the beaches.

Criminals are robbing nicer areas as much or more than the areas near the coliseum.
