The inflatable protectors have been in use for years in the equestrian eventing world. My daughter has activated hers while riding cross country more than once and it's saved her from serious injury. I'll have to take a closer look at it to see how it compares to the RXR. Hers uses a gas charged cylinder & tether cord to activate......

I know the Alpinestars one operates with two gas charged cylinders and it deploys by itself. The 2 gas charged cylinders allows it to have two full use so in racing situation it's a great thing to have. At this moment they're really expensive at around $1200 but I suppose you can't really put a price on safety.

So for the vest your daughter uses she needs to pull a tether cord in order for it to deploy? It's better than nothing but you have to be quick on the trigger so to speak for it to work properly. You have to anticipate something will be going wrong which in the case of accidents is in the blink of an eye. Not exactly the best system if you ask me. Any link to the vest she uses?

The RXR ones are always inflated so she might be better off wearing one of those than the one she's currently using. I'd definitely compare those two if I were you.
The tether goes to the saddle. You only need it in the case of an "unexpected dismount". I will look tonight at brand but if I remember it wasn't cheap (like anything equestrian). The technology has been around for quite awhile in the eventing world...........

I didn't even think about having it tethered to the saddle. That makes complete sense. As soon as you start falling off it inflates before you hit the ground. I'm sure it wasn't cheap but just like I mentioned you can't really put a price on safety. It's a good thing they have that technology in the equestrian side of things. I've been horseback riding a couple times growing up before my injury and those things are not only massive but are really high off the ground.

I know that with Snocross every rider participating in an event is required to wear a Tek Vest. Are inflatable vest a requirement in the equestrian world or is it still optional? Personally I think it should be mandatory up until the a person is of legal age, after that the person should be allowed to decide to continue wearing it or not. If you get kids use to it from early on they usually tend to stick with it.

It's good to see companies innovating and progressing in the field of safety devices.

What’s the latest on these RXR chest protectors? Are the older models just as good as the newest?

I’m interest in purchasing the bullet. I just visited their site. There’s 3 different “packages” you can order. Just the bullet, bullet plus elbow/shoulder protection, or bullet with nicer shoulder protection.

Is anyone using these? I wanna get some guys opinions on the different variations, I’m thinking I don’t really need the elbow/shoulder protection. I see the Dylan Ferrandis is sponsored by them

I went with the RXR Impact instead of the Bullet, and I’m happy with it so far. I haven’t crashed with it, and hope not to, but I have crashed with the original one years back. There’s a reason I stuck with the brand.

I use the bullet with the shoulder/elbow guards.
I was in a huge crash late last year which resulted in a broken femur.
I also came down very hard on my back. Nothing on my back was broken, although I’ve had some impact numbness/stiffness which has slowly decreased.
If I wasn’t wearing the bullet I’m quite sure I would have sustained a fair bit of spinal damage.
I’d never ride without one, or something similar.

I wish they would develop some impact shorts. Seems to me the tech they have is good, but the design could be better.

Have been debating getting a Bullet for some time, but they seem so bulky and cumbersome.

Sew the air bag tech into some modern wicking fabric that can be worn under a jersey/pants and sign me up.

Same though, I I'd probably need to get pants one size larger for the thicker pads underneath.

I'm sporting the RXR Bullet, it's been great so far. Haven't crash tested it, but I think it'll do a better job than the old Impact design, of which my son used a couple of those.

Their website says they work with all neck braces except alpinestars.

I got ya bro. This is with the Atlas, with the front prongs slip behind the RXR. I tried to include a pic to show the front, back, and clearance between the helmet and the brace.

Also for anyone else interested, I’m posting a picture of the RXR under the jersey. (I’m 150lb so I felt like a humpbacked hockey player-better worn on the outside imo. I’ve worn it over a compression jersey without the over jersey and it’s not bad)

I was a littleeee disappointed that the air chambers are pretty minuscule since that was my buying point. I never installed the graphics either but they look nice

Looks to be the same as the Bullet, but now available in blue or red.
The Bullet is great, have crash tested mine a couple of times and been happy with it.

Sorry man I know this is a super old thread but can you fit the back prongs underneath the back protection? Or is there just not enough room? Also what size brace and chest protector are you wearing?

Who carries RXR in the US? Can't find it anywhere except direct from France. BTO discontinued them.

Well that's a bummer. I know from oordering some rare CDs from France that it takes forever and the shipping is astronomical. If they can even ship them here now with covid.

If I remember shipping is included in their price and it takes around 4 days from France to SoCal. Maybe with covid a week at the most.

I was actually going to ask this question, also. I thought it was supposed to go under? The ability to have it on the outside is huge for someone with a thoracic spinal fusion as on the outside it would distribute the impact much better, vs the neck brace straight to the back would put a lot of pressure on a fusion in a certain situation.

I don't know for certain why but I know it's supposed to contact your skin. That's all I'm gonna say, don't know why they're supposed to do that so I'm not gonna comment any further because I'm not educated on the subject.
