Brandon Jessman's RM125 in 2003. Other then JS7 fcotry KX... You would have to guess with decoster at Suzuki, they would have had some serious R&D behind the casings of them motors

Hey that's my YZ! I did a rebuild on that bike awhile back. It was cool going through that bike and seeing some of the trick bits. That pic I took wasn't to show the clutch pack as much as the Ti that was throughout the engine. Anyone can buy Ti kits to save weight, but going inside the engine isn't done much by anyone other than factory guys. The Ti on this Metcalfe YZ125 was all YMC Japan. A lot of the plastic was held on with aluminum fasteners. They didn't run Ti Linkage bolts for reliability but most everything else was. I actually got some insights in talking to Metty's Mechanic from back then, Jared Coles. The way they prepare factory bikes is cool. Rebuilding the wheels, all the bearings were open (rubber seals removed), outer plastic dust seals snapped off the wheel spacers all to reduce drag. The Triple clamps had a thicker stem, smaller bearings and thicker races. I'm sure that was to fine tune rigidity. I sent the headset to Pivot Works, but they were unable to match it. Luckily it was all in good enough shape to reuse. The radiators are stockers that had been braced and welded for strength. ICW (www.icwradiators.com) does similar work. The frame had tabs welded in for skid plate and a vortex ignition was relocated between the radiators.

Man that's sick!!!! Good piece of history there mate!
Now the public have more access to technology and in sites to what factory parts are made etc..
Id love to get my hands on an early 2000' 2 stroke to see how factory i could get it, If not.. better then a factory bike with all the technology we have these days.

I was going to post that 2004 Jan de Groot Kawasaki. I still can't work out how it works. Such a shame he passed away.
There were claims a few years back that the under frame shock was going in to production.

Magnesium hubs and backing plates, steel spoke retainer on front hub, titanium brake shoe pivots and cams, machined liners in hubs, aluminum wheel spacers, quick release brake actuating rod, billet titanium chain adjusters...

Does any one have photos of Chad Reeds KX he was racing in the GP's late 90's?
Rumour had it that was one of the most expensive 2 strokes at that time and filled with one off custom parts. Would love to see what goodies they had made for that bike.

That right there is the newer model. The original ones were round. I think it was essentially a spark amplifier. Idea being that a stronger spark produced a more thorough burn and hence more power. Just imagine a roost boost coupled with a Splitfire plug....oh momma!!!!! Grinning
