Ron Hamp had dyno sheets with a 19 RWE and a standard 19 450R and the standard made more peak power but the RWE was a smoother power curve

They probably take measurements from a 'hand ported' head, then use that as the casting base for the WE?
Exactly !

If i photocopy a letter that i wrote, can i call all 500 copies handwritten?

What about a print of a famous piece of artwork? Hand drawn?

Seems like they may have stretched the truth a little with their advertisement on this one.

"Then there’s the limited-production CRF450R Works Edition. The RWE gets all the improvements of the CRF450R plus a special hand-ported cylinder head, black DID DirtStar LT-X rims, a new, exclusive Yoshimura exhaust system with titanium header, titanium nitride-coated lower fork legs and shock shaft, an RK gold chain, special ECU settings, a factory-spec gripper seat, and more."

MXA say - The 2019 Honda CRF450 WE’s head has factory hand-polished ports to improves torque from low-to-midrange.

Hand polished ports - That could mean the actual port not the complete inlet / outlet ?

#1 I m going to miss Ron Hamp. That guy was fantastic!

#2 that clearly isn't a hand polished port. Intake or exhaust.

#3 if honda has that in some marketing materials (that it is hand polished), I'd be pissed looking at that port that isn't hand polished. False advertising.

Great "Works Edition" Honda that is using stock parts from production model. Must be better with higher price. Expensive stickers that is.

For goodness sake, read the posts above, on Hondas site it does NOT say polished ports!

MXA is wrong

To be fair on Honda's site it says "Hand Ported" not polished, only a few mags say polished (for some reason, MXA and Dirt Bike being a couple I quickly looked at), so those who are disappointed that they are not polished should now not be.

As for "Hand Ported" it can be argued forever and a day what that entails, it could be reshaping ports or milling of the valve pockets, etc. Either way it is different than stock.
The WE is a $12,000 motorcycle. $2600 MORE than the regular 450. For $2600 you better expect a pipe and port and polish. buying a WE is paying $2600 for graphics and a pipe. That head looks like it was touched for 2 seconds and passed down the line.

Has anyone taken a we ecu and swapped it with a standard ecu I bet that’s where the difference in power numbers come from.

Describe it any way you want, that head does not match the marketing description.

Honda sure does not have the cnc marks or any marks bar casting marks - As we scratch for reason - Is it possible Honda went with Marketing over substance ? Makes no sense that they would do that , hence the remarks trying to make sense of what is going on here ? If they hand ported the first one then replicated it ? The is it hand ported ? Is that not how they create production cylinders anyway - Sue them see what shakes loose :-)

There's a difference between porting and polishing. That head may very well be "ported." Those ports look 'cleaner' than your average casting.

Nevertheless, "Works Edition" bikes are a giant scam.

Disappointed in the machine or the marketing dept? 60hp is no joke regardless of whether or not the port is "hand polished." I "hand polish" my "equipment" frequently. :-)

There is not a person on here that could feel the difference between this bike with or without hand polishing the exhaust ports.

Nope nothing against the bike itself. Marketing is certainly misleading especially when you look at how much more he WE is.

For $2600 id expect something more like the GYTR head that was posted.

I dont care what it looks like, when you ride one you can tell its smoother than the standard bike.

You should care what it looks like..

You paid for your car to get painted black but they painted it dark gray. You didnt get what you were sold. it doesnt matter if its a new coat of paint and feels smoother than the old finish.
