You should have powder coated that frame so those works serial numbers would be buried.

Only after prepping it with one of those flapper sanding wheels right? Lol
Yep, that is the beauty of paint over powder coat on a restoration project though. Love seeing the details.

Exactly why I used paint stripper instead of sandblasting as well. Plus the paint shows all the shitty welds too. Lol

Looking good!

Is that the clutch perch that is supposed to be on the bike or did it have something else when it was raced? Can't remember if AOF perches were out then.
Yes, stock clutch lever and perch assy. Pretty surprising how much stock stuff Suzuki used. Even the works stuff is pretty bland compared to works Honda bits.

Lol, hell even I make fun of this Suzuki! Thanks for the complement, I'll keep posting updates as I move along with it.

Unless you guys owned a 1986 RM250, you have no idea how spotty Suzukis were. I did, and those 89-93 models were like fucking spaceships compared to that turd. I still loved it though because I'm a Suzuki guy.

Doubling up on the torture, eh Pete? LOL I had a friend who had one. Swore he'd set it on fire if the dealer didn't take it back.

Works Showa Shock and forks mounted back up. Shock has high/low speed compression which was pretty trick in 91. Something about serialized suspension is just super cool. Lol.

Lol, that blob of crap is the original piece of heat wrap that Guy's mechanic (Marshall Plumb) put on the pipe because Guy squeezed the bike so hard that the pipe would melt through the side panel. Could have replaced it with a new piece but I'm trying to keep this as original as possible.

I like your restoration style.
Last thing you would want to do is turn it into a new rm250 and loose all the character of the bike.
I think a few pen marks and nicks look a lot better on the bike than if you replaced all the parts with new.

Thank you sir. My thoughts exactly. The way I see it is that with each piece that gets replaced the further away it gets from Guy's bike and the closer it gets to just another replica. I was just about to clean the fork caps up with scotchbrite then I noticed the black marker on them, nope, gotta leave that on there! Pipe still has some small stone dings, swingarm has some nics, sprockets are slightly used, etc.. My goal is to bring the bike back to the condition it would have been in at the end of the 91 SX season and not like it had never been ridden by Mr Airtime.

Look at all the projects piling up! Are you up to the "average" vintage enthusiast level of 21 bikes yet? Or do I need to help some more???

I guess I will assume you aren't going to ride it? Just a thought but bring that machine to MX Rewind at Unadilla in 2015 and get Coop to take 3 laps on it - the place will go nuts and I am pretty sure he would do it.

Think about it you could get some good camera people strategically placed to record the whole thing. Bring it home, put it back under the TV, and then just let it run on loop. It could only help the value and man the conversation piece. People can come over and you can say "yeah and that's Cooper riding it at Unadilla like it sits last year- 5 years ago - way back in 2015"

No matter what that is a thing of beauty!

It will be at MX Rewind and the NJ SX as well. I may let Coop spin a few laps on it out at Dilla but neither of us are sure if it should be ridden or not. Lol. I personally have no interest on riding it.

it would really mean more to everyone ( or maybe just me) if i rode it, Guy got paid to ride them i actually had to buy them and pay to race them, im sure it was much more painful for me than Guy, after all i had a choice to buy a Honda and i still bought the yellow turds, ive never been accused of being to smart
