Well. just moved from SoCal to Ohio. As far as motorsports go, I see a huge difference. In SoCal, every 20-30 trucks on the freeway had bikes, SxSs, Karts, you name it. Here in the outskirts of Columbus I haven't seen one truck with a dirt/MX bike in the back, and it's been a month. I haven't even seen a MC dealer yet!
I moved here kinda knowing that so I bought a large 12 acer lot out in the farmland (Ashville) so I could build my own track (MX and SxS, approx 2 min lap time at vet speed), which I've done (but it's never finished, right). I was hoping to get some older Vet (55 plus) guys together to practice/play race, but I have no Idea how to get the word out or even if there's any interest.
I know there's a track (indoor and outdoor) about 1.5 hrs away (Route 62 MX park). I've called and riding varies depending on weather, etc. The indoor and outdoor track look too much like SX jumps to me. I'm afraid at my (old man) speed I'd be a hazard unless they allow timed practice by age/ability. SoCal certainly does NOT and was a big reason I stopped practicing at the local tracks.
So, I guess I'm looking for suggestions from the local "Buckeyes" as to how to re-engage with other like riders. Again, my track is welcome to any Vet (don't want people going too fast) to ride on. I'm retired as I suspect most other of the like are. It's a pretty fun track although I need dirt to add a few smaller tables. I have a bobcat and all the accessories to make mods, etc.
Anyway, you can text me Mark Christman at 602 752 0083 if you have any positive suggestions/advice.
You may or may not know it, but for the Midwest you're smack dab in the middle of a few awesome tracks. East Fork Mx, Briarcliff Mx, Route 62, Grear's, Honda Hills, and Hills of Fire Mx.
I have an entire list of Ohio tracks if you want it.
Here's a look at East Fork after they re-did the track in 2022.
Grears is in Zanesville and is alot of fun as a vet. I recommend trying a GP there next year when M.E.R.P holds their event.
A member on here posted vids of riding in Wv. St line is aprox 120’mi from Columbus. Tomahawk I think is the tracks name. It looked like it was vet friendly with great flow. Your rt I don’t see many bikes in Ohio either. But I just spent all week driving around So Cal. & only saw 2 bikes. Sounds weird but IL. & Wi. Ovr the yrs traveling that’s where I see the most bikes. Usually older 2-st. Up st Ny. ,Pa. 3rd, 4th but usually enduro. Chillicothe is just south of you they hv 2 pro am races and 2 tracks 1 is sx for races.
A lot of these tracks around central Ohio split up groups to make practice a little more safer so it is more enjoyable for the rider.
The Shop
Lots of great motocross to be had around the state.
Beans Bike Park, Briarcliff and Malvern are 3 of my favorites.
I own a GP series that runs at various tracks throughout the summer - I’m a little bias but we are picking up a pretty good following.
Off-Road scene is very strong - you’re in the heart of GNCC country
Motocross wise there are 3/4 different promoters running races - Ohio MX is kind of in a rebuilding era right now that way.
Welcome to Ohio! Lot's of tracks close by and from your location you are about a 5:30 hour drive to a bunch of tracks in Northern North Carolina for when the weather gets bad.
I just turned 55 and starting to ride again after spending the last 15 years hauling the boy around the east coast to race. I will reach out via text and see if we can connect. I would love to ride with another guy that has "old man speed" and get comfortable riding again.
Your not far from ask in grove city if your looking for a dealer
Iron Pony in Columbus
A lot of riding in the area if you’re in Asheville you’re 15 minutes from where I live there are a lot of tracks less than an 1:30 bad time of the year unfortunately. Eastfork, chillitown, 62, briarcliff, Grears , Cocr, hills of fire, Brushcreek, Dayton mx check them out on Facebook a bunch of us old guys in the area our vet classes are strong
I think Ohio may be 2nd to California for the number of motocross tracks. Southern Ohio is loaded with off road riding and racing. The state has some very fast vet guys as well. Some of them come out to the bigger races. You might be surprised at the speed of some the 30, 40 and 50+ guys.
Don't get discouraged. I think you just need a lay of the land. There are tons of motorcycle shops. As someone else said, check out Iron Pony. The AMA museum is in Pickerington. Ohio is a great place to ride dirt bikes.
You don't see them in trucks because they are in vans an trailers it seems. Lol
As others have said lots of tracks around Central Ohio.
Rt62 does do session for indoors.
Yeah the 30-50+ Ohio fly there usually up front at Red Bud vet fest. I like Ohio a lot I almost moved there a couple of times. South & eastern is very hilly scenic & beautiful . It’s adventurous I had a thick magazine of Ohio scenic trail riding . So I think there’s a lot of that too. Covered wooden bridges with low clearance. 2011 maybe I had to get a new semi from Columbus. I spent 1.5 days shoveling deep snow drifts, that’s rare there. My Ca. Ld has 3 stops 2 in Ohio . So I,ll be there tomorrow. If you didn’t bring a women. Ohio has the finest petite women of the all the land. I77 s Ohio into WV. Quite a few miles is the best rd in America. Hills with curves that r continuously the same . I always end up going north on i77. The rd has great flow with great gforces. You can tell everyone enjoys the rd . Depending on the car or bike there trying higher speeds to get a better feeling.
I live in Northeast Indiana. I haven't seen anyone mention Pusheta over by Wapokaneta? Is that still a thing? I liked that place a lot, but havent made it over there, for a coupe of years... Schedule an old Dude ride day. I would make the trip. I turn 60 in about (3) months...

Pusheta is pretty hit or miss anymore. Follow them on social media and look for them to post open practice days.
I have lived in TX for about 8 years now. Prior to that I lived in Ohio. The Ohio MX scene is great. Tons of great tracks (they've been mentioned here numerous times). Lots of fast guys too. Start hitting open practice and races. You'll meet lots of people. That's what I did when I was there. Tons of great people in the MX scene in Ohio.
My group does a few trips to Route 62 every winter… we do have a vet and a slower beginner that tags along. They split up practice, nothing to worry about! I’ll shoot you a PM next time we head down in a few weeks
I'm going way back (20 yrs or more), do they still run the indoor at Marion, OH fair grounds? Went there a few times from upstate NY. Had a good time and that's where I met Joe Oehlhof. Awesome guy with a great familiy. Miss those days for sure.
No Marion been gone would be way to small for the bikes now. Columbus Fairgrounds been gone for around 10 years. Rt62 and ram jam are great options for indoors
Pit Row
It was way too small back then.
I luckily live 25 minutes from Pusheta Creek. Open ride days have slowed down in the last two years unfortunately. I have helped work out there for since 2015 and a lot has been changed! Scott, the owner is a lot busier with his 3 kids now and his in-laws were helping at registration a lot. He took some time away this year since his father in law passed. There have been quite a few private rentals he’s been doing instead of open practices tho
Don't forget about OIR also.
Summit indoors also.
