Sounds like you're happy with the Pivot Works stuff, no need to go OEM on bearing assemblies? Guess I'll go that route as well just hadn't heard that much feedback on them.

I have one of these bikes that I will be working on after I complete the 1999 YZ I am currently building. Love these 92 YZ's, I will be embracing the magenta as well with my build!
I originally bought a Pro X swingarm bearing kit. It came with plastic shims to replace the needle bearings that are under the end caps. The pivot works kit came with real needle bearings and looks just like oem parts. I did not even check oem for all the swingarm parts needed...likely would have cost 3 times more than the pivot works kit... I generally choose oem when buying parts, But I feel the Pivotworks kit is a quality replacement. I will also ad that, I”m not sure how old this Pivotworks kit was that I bought, it could have been a older kit that may have had better manufacturing... you know... before everything was made in China....

Originally thought I could use this rear wheel... after a closer inspection it will need to be replaced. Has a big dent that the P.O. Tried to repair with a claw hammer and most spokes are seized and corroded. The front wheel is in decent condition...I may just lace up a new rear rim... I have never really built a complete wheel, so this should be interesting...

The fit-up probably didn't look that good from Yamaha when it was new.
Considering what it looked like when you bought it, that looks great!

Thanks, you are most likely correct on fit... I know the rear subframe rails are correct, the seat, side panels & silencer all fit correctly. The p.o. Had the fender mount holes drilled out to fit the misaligned rear rails. Just a little massaging with the die grinder on the fender mount points gave me some adjustment. Now I can move on to fitting new seat foam & cover and prepping plastic for Evo-MX oem decal kit👍

Are you going to do a build thread? I’ve got a 98 that I’m slowly doing stuff on. Would love to see more 96-01 YZ builds

Thanks mattyhamz2.... I planned on having the bottom end cases vapor blasted, but they were so clean it was not needed. I just refinished the covers with a really good matching silver. If I can find a good condition 97-98 YZ I would do a build thread for sure.... do a thread on yours!

Welcome! I'm going to have an early 90's 125 build coming soon, so this is huge inspiration!

Haha, I will be doing a build thread for it soon. Progress has been slow though

What a great job you are doing on this restoration. Regarding the finish on the engine; Is the engine painted? The engines came from the factory painted, didn't they?

This build looks promising Sandman! 92 was a really good looking year for all brands. I have a yz 125 waiting to be done.

The 96-01 would be great to see more builds of aswell. Here's my 97.

Thanks gantry25. Yes, the cases and clutch cover were finished from the factory. The cases I bought from fellow Vital member Shue415, were in very good condition. I was able to refinish all the cases & covers to match with a GM silver & then I Applied a High temp urethane clearcoat for durability.

Thanks Banana oil... I like the 96-98 YZ”s... I looked at a decent 97 125 over the winter, I should have bought it, but the seller wanted too much, it needed a full redo but was a good base. Your 97 is very nice..

Seemed like a good day to get this seat cover & foam installed... at no point did I feel like I would be able to get the wrinkles out, but kept at it...
