I know the other side of the argument too. It's impossible to say what would have been the case in the other brand helmets. . .

Wil was and always wears a Shoei. Personal sponsor for years.

FLmxer: Incorrect. Wil Hahn wore a 6D in 2013.

mattyhamz2: Wil was wearing a Shoei helmet when he cracked his skull in 2014. He rode for Geico on a 450 and was allowed personal deals, so he wore a Shoei instead of a 6D.

That Evan guy is full of it on Asterisk letting him go out because a sponsor pushed them to)

You're right he was wearing a shoei when he crashed last year. But he was wearing a 6D the year before when he was on 250s.

Right on but he was wearing a Shoei when he hurt his head. I have had four Shoei and wearing my first 6d this past year so I noticed he was still wearing Shoei while the rest of the team wore 6d.

Man , you can't get off a bike much worse than that. Really happy to hear that he'll be alright. Don't know if it's a testament to the 6D helmet , or RJ just being one tough friggin' kid!

Where is startedtoosoon? Nowhere to be found.

How that kid didn't break atleast his collarbone is beyond me. Wow. Those 6d helmets are damn good helmets and he STILL had a brain bleed. Wow.

I seem to remember the Asterisk crew compiling some crash data from the SX races. Did that info ever get put out or are they still working on it?

Or am I delirious from lack of sleep last night.Dizzy

I have a feeling that the data they've complied so far is such a small sample group that you wouldn't be able to deduct any meaningful information from it. But it would be cool to hear if it's still in progress.

He's been wearing shoei since he moved up to 450's.

Helmet = concussion + brain bleed
Helmet + neck brace = collar bone? sternum? spine? concussion + brain bleed?

Those things are bear traps and all i can think of is what other injuries would have come along with his concussion had he been wearing one.

They're always compiling data. That doesn't necessarily mean you're getting a report on your desk on Monday morning.

Who is that guy? He puts some pretty "out there" stuff on here and then makes it sound like it's from close sources.

I think that guy has no idea what he's talking about, and he doesn't post here any more. My choice, not his.

I get what you're saying, but at the same time, I wouldn't listen to 85% of pros for anything to do with the anatomy of the human body, haha

There was a time when they were. Like after this video that we did.

I'm not sure if David still feels the same way or not. But I do know it usually takes something bad to happen to make people rethink their stance on safety gear. We've been lucky for quite a few years now. Let's hope we continue that way.

Haha. I'm sure I'm the last guy to get a report like that on my desk. I just remember some chatter in another thread and it seemed like there was something in the works. It was a while ago. Maybe a Zach Bell thread?

Not sure what you said.
You listen to the ones getting paid to wear neck braces?
You listen to the ones not wearing a neck brace?

Well, seems like 'this' thread is actually turning into 'that' thread. While I'm not 100% sure about the neck brace talk (Lot of arguments for and against), I know a little bit about the helmet thingy- The problem with those crashes is not the impact itself, it's the rotational acceleration that costs you the concussion. That's why more and more helmets have 2 shells or a similar system which can move seperately. It brakes the acceleration a little, BUT, Bob Weber (Founder of the 6D helmets) said himself that it only works in low and mid speed crashes well. Something like Bell and RJ had, wouldn't fall in that category I suppose... Weber also said that these acceleration happens when something stops the helmet, like the edges of modern designed helmets (Shoei, and all these good looking helmets). That's why he tried to make a compromise between a good looking but round helmet.

So that's just what I know- and it made sense to me when I read it. So helmets like the 6D, Moto 9-Flex, V3 and V4, Arai seem safer to me than Shoei for example does.
Buuut, I'm not a doctor. But the current movement in helmet technology seems like a step into the right direction.

I think it's from the QnA with the head of the Astersik Medical Crew. Don't remember his name but that was the most interesting thread ever

Yeah it was something like that. Thought maybe it was Eddie C that had mentioned it.

I dont think David realized the implications of the leatt brace. I know 2 people personally that broke their back 1 paralyzed because of the leatt brace. That was coming from the doctor who treated the one who was paralyzed as well.

So you're saying that the brace caused them to be paralyzed?

Was just making a point, that I don't buy stuff based on endorsements or biases, especially safety equipment. I am no mr.safety though so Im not an authority on it, just my take.
