ADVISORY - War / Violence

News is reporting that a Russian strike on the Ukraine can take place in a matter of hours. Putin's forces are camping on three fronts with engines running.

I really feel sorry for the people of Ukraine.

I can't see Nato and the US armed forces going into the Ukraine, the risk of a full scale war is to great.

Just like he did in Crimea, Putin is in a good spot to also annexe the Ukraine. When will it stop?

Sorry bro, CNN is not news. All the MSM outlets are creating panic and fear over the Ukraine as well as the Biden administration. They are creating hysteria with talk of Kiev falling in 3 days and all the doom and gloom.
Some good advice, stay away from CNN and all the other opinion based news orgs that employ activists, not journalists.

Here is a great article for you to read.

Really does seem impossible to stop Putin. But which country is next? Where does nato draw the line?

And the Biden administration won’t do a damned thing except flap their gums and blame nato.

Say what you want about The previous administration, but China, Russia and N Korea weren’t making any moves with Trump in office.

Impossible to stop Putin? No, the US has just lost its backbone and is ran by a bunch of incompetent morons. See my previous post.

So what should be done in this case? Personally, I don't want any US troops going to the fucking Ukraine to fight Russians. Not our problem and not worth the risk.

I'll take your word for it. The past few years I've been bouncing between Fox and CNN.

What can you recommend reliable news?

Stop what? He annexed Crimea and has support from ethnic Russians in Donbas. There is so much more at play here that people don’t realize. It’s more about economics than anything. Turkey and China play a significant roll as well. NATO draws the fucking line when one of their members is invaded. That’s the whole point of article 5. Ukraine does not belong in NATO. The US should stop any talk of adding them.

I dont want to send one US soldier over there either but we and others could sanction the shit out of them. Real sanctions. I also don’t agree with sending arms there either.

And this is a power play by Putin plain and simple. Anyone claiming it’s for the good of the people or for ethnic reasons is not seeing the bigger picture. Xi will follow soon. These people and the religious dictators in the Middle East respond to power. Not talk or bullshit. Power.

And as far as the Middle East I’m fine if the US stays the hell out of there. No one is winning anything is that area do to ethnic and religious wars for the last couple thousand years.

US policy sucks ass even worse than it has previously, and our government is as corrupt as it gets.

There are no US troops in Ukraine. There are some instructors from USA, from SAS from French Legion.
Guy I know who`s in French Legion has been there numerous times. He was there back in 2014 shortly after first invasion too.
There are US troops in Poland and Romania. We haave some drills going on here right now. Saw a bunch of US Apache helicopters today.
Remember Trump demanded NATO countries to spend X% amount of anual budget on defence? We did that. Military has more money they ever had, buying all kinds of shit.

I just caught something on the scrolling portion of the local news ,i wasn't able to read all of it time but saw something about any Americans in Ukraine have 24 to 48 hours to leave ,if they don't they will be on their own. From what i gather this is mostly about the nord stream pipeline? I'm looking forward to reading this thread and getting information from some of you that have a better grasp on the situation.

Lots of countries evacuate non essential staff from Ukraine. No one knows what Putin is thinking or what`s his end game. His demands were absurd. USA does not want their citizens in Ukraine in case of invasion. They don`t want to get caught with their pants down, like in Afganistan. Better safe than sorry.

Nobody is seriously talking about sending troops. Literally every western country has made it clear that they will not be sending troops to actively take on Russia.
Although they have also made it clear that NATO nations will protect themselves, as they should.

The US and many other western countries are supplying arms though.

Do you think the US and NATO should just give Putin free reign to take what he wants?

NATO putting its “foot” down and not allowing maps to be redrawn has been a cornerstone of peace in Europe for 70 odd years now. So I think serious economic sanctions, and anything short of direct military support for Ukraine is prudent and just.
Putin doesn’t like the fact that Ukraine is starting to lean more to the west. What message does it send to any countries who want to lean more toward the west, that when they Russia retaliates, they are completely on their own.

No civilized country should be OK with Russia entering Ukraine.

Month or so ago I was sure he won`t, but I`m not so sure anymore after I saw his demands to NATO. He basicly ran himself in a corner. Or he did that so he has sure reason to invade. It was clear from a get go that NATO will not do what he asks, I`m sure he knew that. If NATO did, that would be the same pact Stalin and Hitler made before WW2.
Putin has reputation to keep in Russia. I fear he will have no other option but to invade.

Special Forces troops are in Ukraine already operating. So that sorta refutes your initial question or stance. Will we send an entire battalion? Prbly not. Don’t think for one second though that there are no US troops operating in Ukraine.

Fair point.
I really did mean sending conventional forces to go to war.

I stand by everything else I said though. The lines on the map should stay as they are. And short of going to war with russia I support any action taken by the west to stop or at very least punish Russia for trying to re-draw those lines. As they have done multiple times now.

Putin has all his toys around the Ukraine, if he had to pull back now it will be looked at as a sign of weakness by his own people including the rest of the world. He basically has no choice but to attack.

My great friend and dispatcher lives in Serbia. He is also a attorney. He said he is just taunting. He said America sending troops there is a bad idea. It makes it harder for Putin to back off. You then have America and Russia
Squared up. Who will back down looks weak. I have Ukrainian friends I hope nothing happens. I had to work with a young Ukrainian women for 2+ Hrs diagnosing computer stuff. She had no accent after 1 hr I would here a little bit on a word. Very beautiful and cute . And enjoyable to work with.

Russia has Europe by the balls right now with gas production, they’re already in the midst of an energy crisis and any attempts to sanction will be met with Putin closing off the pipeline and sending Europe into an even bigger problem. Wind and solar aren’t enough for a cold winter and they’ve all but bastardized nuclear power, so they’ve pretty much reaped what they’ve sowed and now Putin has the upper hand.

You are right to a point, but how long can Russia hold on when their economy is screwed? Shutting off the energy taps screws Russia too.
Russia can make Europe pay way too much, and ultimately struggle with energy supply. But ultimately blocking Europe cuts out their biggest source of income.
Western Europe are in a much better place to “wether the storm”
The west can block access to Russian funds, block access to technology, block access to raw materials, shaft their oligarchs financially etc.
It will hurt everyone, but Russia is not in a particularly great place economically speaking.
