Why would there be any type of legal issues selling a "spec" tire.

Id like to know what the difference is, I would say its probably the thickness/threads per inch of the carcass itself, just softer rubber isnt rocket science and isn't really good on a front tire to begin with. If they are running a more flexible carcass they will degrade faster than a normal tire and will start to get less supportive and too flexible of a sidewall explaining why they arent ran for long, not as much to do with knob degradation.

I have a buddy who mechanics for MCR team. He says at the races Dunlop reps have to cut up all the pull off spec tires so the public cannot use them. Maybe this is dated info and this is no longer the case, maybe ML can chime in on this and add more light to it.

They do this so people don't sell them/dumpster dive and instead have buy new tires from them. Same reason companies destroy blemished products before throwing it in a dumpster.

I'm in for a handful of fronts.

I'm curious if it's only sold at actual KTM dealers, or any of the Austrian brands. The Husky shop near me is the only one I'll step foot in.

The press release says KTM, Husky, and Gasgas dealers. I bet these are made in Japan too.

Nice to have options….I run a 110 on my bikes, cant see spending more $ for more weight as less longevity….. the 120 would be a good upgrade due to the weight loss…funny yiu don’t hear much about what tires weight these days…replaced tires on my Porsche 911 this summer…not cheap😂IMG 0666 2.jpeg?VersionId=TYeAAr2WMd4AXegUofbwtasbW.I2PX

I’ve ran a few sets of Hoosiers on my 125, I’m a lifetime short track racing fan so I just had to give them a try. They’re pricey and don’t wear very well at all, but the weight difference was absolutely noticeable, especially on a small bore. A few other friends who ran them echoed the same thoughts, but went back to whatever tire they were running originally because the cost to wear ratio was just asinine for average weekend riding. If I was racing seriously, I would definitely go back to running them.

Will they be available thru the Team Dunlop site?

From what I’ve gathered no, it will be a KTM sku/part number since they’re supposedly coming on the new FEs.

Well........... if anyone has those inferior MX33's taking up space in your garage, send me a DM and I'll give you my address to ship them.

Stoked to try these out. ML any chance they’d do a at 82 in this spec as well?

I just ran the at 82 rear for the first time, as a mx14 lover I went in the “scoop” direction. I ran it back to back with my mx14 wheel at a track in NorCal called estreet, it’s a “sand” track but pretty damn hardpack actually. Almost like GH in that it’s sand over a hard base, very tough track for traction and great for evaluating tires. The 82 tire is pretty damn good, imo I like it more than the 33 or the 34. Straight line acceleration feels almost as good as the MX 14 on the back sandy parts of the track but then on the front track where the harder base is, it really performed well compared to the mx14. It basically felt like the perfect combo of the mx14 and mx34. You get the straight line forward momentum the 14 provides and then the better lean angle the 34 provides.

The next day at a harder base track called riverfront I ran it exclusively on my 300 and I have a Mx 34 on my 125. Even on the harder track I liked it more than the mx34, again just propels you forward like the 14 but then keeps you confident on flat hard corners when leaned over.

I'm between riding sessions. Quick comments.

There will only be 13,500 of these tires for 2025. Factory capacity is limited in Japan.

Exclusive to KTM dealers for one year, then it'll open up. KTM partnered with them on this project and got first dibs basically.

Both have a performance improvement, but the front is bigger change. Has it's own characteristics.

Price is about 20% higher than standard MX34. Performance is up, durability is supposed to be about 10-20% worse. Not massive, but they will wear quicker.

The front can be pushed harder in braking and under side load. Tire doesn't fold as easy. You can get really aggresive on corner entry, it's pretty awesome. It's more consistent across changing traction conditions too. When the standard tire goes from low traction to high traction dirt quickly, it grabs the tire/loads it so quickly it'll flex a little and snap oversteer (mid corner). The spec tire doesn't give as easy so it doesn't "tuck" or overload it. Makes the corner characteristic more consistent.

Rear is mostly better on acceleration bumps and how it drives.

The 120/90-19 rear tire is almost half a pound lighter than standard. The front is a little heavier due to a stiffer carcass and more added to the construction.

Love it: Thanks for the detailed insight ML! What PSI’s are recommended, and have they changed from ‘standard’ MX34’s?

That's ridiculous for a tire you'll get 50% less life out of lol

This tire could probably help a local A or pro guy find another tenth or two but biggest majority won't feel a difference.

I’d usually agree with you but to me, tires are very noticeable. You could turn all the clickers you want and I wouldn’t feel it. I can feel a tire swap tho.

You can tell how many people haven't been lucky enough to beg, borrow or steal a set of spec tires or even a lightly used set. If you have the money they are worth every penny. An in truth if you can afford them they will make a basic C rider both faster but SAFER. Ive had the pleasure of being able to swindle 5 sets back in the day. Those moments where I was certain I was gonna be going for a ride and on another tire I would have they stuck and pull me through. They inspire you to ride harder thats for sure.

It's like having a fresh set of hoosiers but better. Wait to you try them.

Is the rubber noticeably softer or harder than the standard tire? Think it would work better on hard pack than a 34?

Maybe it's a KTM thing or Dunlop chose KTM to run this program. I don't think you'll burst into flames if you really want a spec tire and have to go to a KTM dealer for it.

Nice. When I was racing more, I would have jumped all over this. One of the biggest performance upgrades I noticed was having fresh rubber in the right compound and psi for the track.

Maybe I missed it, but will this only be available as an MX34 variant?  I would happily buy a lighter, less durable MX14 spec tire.

I can barely tell the difference from the 33 and 34 o don’t think I’ll need spec tires. But cool

They will be available

years ago if you were in the right place at the right time, and had a 4leaf clover in your pocket...  you could get a spec take off at a SX race. not sure how much different spec tires are now but back then holy cow they were incredibly light and flexy.  I think i still have a couple collecting dust in the garage😜

Its not a truly spec tire unless it comes with the yellow decals, that's what gives them the performance.

No I'm bummed I can't be the one selling them to shops lol.

Wonder how that front will work for slower speed offroad stuff?  I'll happily trade life for grip assuming you don't get like 15% of the life out of it.

You probably will get to sell them in a year.

Porsche driving, road racing, slow old vet MXer here.

I’d probably take 1/2 a lap to notice my front tire was flat, but I’d buy one of these.

When I was young, and fast (ish), I couldn’t afford to have a new front and rear tire at the same time. (Still managed to win races/championships at the local level.)

Now I can afford it, I do it. Now, or NEVER.

My favorite tire is always the least expensive one I can find.  🤣  Then I run it down until it is embarrassingly worn out.  Doesn't even matter if it throws off a knob or two during its life, still gets the job done.
