I too was at Barona today, bike looks great in person.  I was mentioning to Bryan that in pictures I thought it was ok/little weird but now that it exists in front of me it is a good looking bike.

Some quality photos there.

It's good to see you're a bit of a ripper Bryan, if I ever pick one up my battery will last significantly longer than yours.

I'm on the fence on this bike, and electric in general, but I do hope it works out and does what it says on the tin and I'm interested in real world numbers, so thanks for your time filling in the gaps. Enjoy! 👍

Loving the pictures, Bryan! It honestly feels like there couldn't have been a better recipient for the first bike to go to. You can shred, you love E-Bikes and you frequently post on the internet for us nerds to read and watch. Excited for the video and first impressions on the production model from you!

The biggest intrigue for me about these bikes is that I could legit build some small turn tracks and stuff on a little bit of land and the near-by neighbors would be none the wiser. Would not be possible with my 125 or any other ICE bike for that matter. Not currently in the market for one but definitely keeping my eye on these as they start to roll out and we get some solid reviews on the production models. Would definitely be more interested in a version that was slower if it meant shaving some weight off of it. No need for 80 HP here. Grinning

Dude, owning electric bikes over the past 5 years, i find myself regulaly looking off the side of the road for potential riding spots pretty much every time im in a car driving somewhere. "Man, thats some prime real-estate for a little track!" always runs through my head after seeing an empty commercial lot, or the grassy area in the middle of off ramps from a highway, or unused sections of woods, etc etc. My wife teases me for it 😄. Electric makes it a real possibility. It makes you feel like a kid again. Id probably be in trouble if i told you all the areas ive ridden lol. For me, theres no reason to ever go back to gas bikes.

I have to ask...have you practiced any starts with it yet?  I'd imagine the acceleration is immediate and powerful but that has to feel weird not revving an engine with a clutch pulled in. Since you don't have to shift or deal with engine RPM's I'd think you could pull anyone like a mofo.

Would love to see you somewhere like GH with the massive hills to see how this bike pulls through the elevation and sand.

Question, when you put around, whirling the bike around your dogs. Are they fine with it or does the whirl do something to them?

I had a weird encounter with a buddy's Labrador who would be driven insane by the electric motor whirl.

Stark/Wass have repeatedly said their bike is the best MXer ever made. It's not me claiming that.

Doesn't it then have be held to Pro MX and MXGP standards?

Taking several hours to refuel when IC machines take a few seconds seems at odds with that.

At the highest level there is a bare hour between motos and I'm fairly sure you dont pressure wash and repair a dirty Stark while it's charging.

Doesn’t every manufacturer claim their new models are the best ever?

Can you give some examples of where Stark has “repeatedly” said this?  I’m maybe not as well informed and well read as you but I don’t recall them just touting that claim over and over

I've only heard  Anton say on that first interview that they set out to build the best motocross bike. And make it electric. And that he thinks everybody will be happy with what they came out with.  That is how I remember him saying it. I'll go back and listen to it again.

But in the newest interview he did  on Gypsytales he was  talking about some improvements and options they will offer in the future. Not saying anything specific , just saying that they have some stuff going on. Hinted that having everything that is steel be Titainanium as an option at some point. And doing something like MTB's where you have a base model and so on. Maybe I've heard other people say it so many times that I just do not hear it anymore.

I personally think there is a big upside for electric powered MX bikes and performance vehicles that do not need a long range. Maybe the Varg will be the one that starts things off on a rapid change. Or maybe not.

image-20230521215243-1

Any number of claims and quotes attributed to the chief Stark braggart, Anton Wass are easy to find, as above.

If it's the best MX bike, the fastest, most advanced, 80 hp it has to be held to the highest standards, which is all I am doing.

So far it's failed the refueling test taking hours compared to seconds for IC bikes- and along with that the top up test. It's pretty hard for me to see how, unlike a petrol bike, a reserve of fuel can be carried on a long playride.

Going all in on arguing it can't possibly be the fastest motocross bike ever because you can't bungee cord a gas can to it on a long play ride is an interesting take.....

It's electric, so you wouldn't be carrying a 'gas can' - and as far as I can see you cannot attach a spare battery.

No one is going all in but play bike range is a thing; imagine the shame of being footpeg towed by an IC bike?

You're missing the point. That can all be true.... and it could still be the best, most advanced, fastest mx bike ever. Best doesn't mean perfect.

Okay Goldmember, I'm your huckleberry.

The MXA 450 shootout recently declared the 2023 Yamaha YZ450F as its winner. Therefore, one could certainly argue that this bike is currently "the best MX bike ever made."

Okay, fine - let's do that. What I'll do now is a quick 10 point comparison between that bike and the Stark Varg.

1. Which bike is produces virtually no noise and thus can be ridden stealthily?

2. Which bike will never, ever, find a false neutral on a jump face?

3. Which bike will never, ever, seize its motor on a steep downhill double?

4. Which bike has an endlessly adjustable torque curve and power delivery that can change from 1 horsepower to 80 - and everything in-between - in mere seconds?

5. Which bike requires less maintenance?

6. Which bike is easier to ride for anyone from a beginner to a pro?

7. Which bike feels lighter - not on a scale, but on an actual track?

8. Which bike requires less shifting?

9. Which bike has adjustable engine braking?

10. Which bike has more range?

Hmmm. Near as I can tell, the poor, hapless, Yammy went one-for-ten on my comparison test. Therefore, I do hereby confirm Wass' various statements as true and do now declare the Stark Varg to be, indeed, "the best MX bike ever made."

A 80hp motocross bike with the right gearing, will always have a higher top speed than a 60hp motocross bike, therefore it is the fastest production motocross bike!

A better line for ýour presently unanswerable questions would be; "when will Stark present proof of 400 bikes delivered in the USA, so it can  (or not) be homologated"?

Then, if it is run in Pro MX and SX, and raced to a championship like the big Yamaha, the questions about claims to greatness become answerable.

The tests are not easy when you claim the best MX bike- it takes more than satisfying a magazine editor to convince reasonable people of greatness.

Keep moving those goal posts. Since when does any body judge the best bike as being the one that wins the championship?  I don’t think very many consider the Honda 250 and 450 to be the best production bikes currently.

Now THAT is funny - you, of all people, claiming to have any knowledge of what "reasonable people" think. You, the Exalted Emperor/Minister of Justice/Court Jester or the entire Basket Of Ignorables Tinfoil Kingdom.

But I gotta say: these Varg threads wouldn't be nearly as amusing without your crinoline arguments against the bike. If nothing else, you give hope to anyone on here who once believes(d) they were too prone to believing in pseudo-intellectual nonsense.

Nice try at moving the goal posts, by the way. But hey - that's not just a mere pastime for you, now is it? It's more of a "calling."

Here you go guys. I did a long 30min moto at Cahuilla Creek Mx today at a decent pace. Started with 87% state of charge and used 75% battery. Power started to taper off at about 20% and at less than 15% the power was too low for me to safely hit some of the jumps on the track. Had i started with 100% i would have gone the full 30+2 without power loss. Im thoroughly impressed by this range as its considerably more than my Alta. I can only last about 20 minutes on this traxk before significant power reduction on the Alta. Cahuilla is a fast, loamy track with lots of elevation change, so really a hard test of range on the Varg. Ill be posting the full gopro at some point this coming week.

Hell yea man!  Glad it seems to be performing at or near to what they said. Have you been recharging in between sessions?
