I made the post and dont care what people ride. I have a 250 2 stroke and a 450.

It was a discussion about why 2 strokes have such a hard following. Thats all.

The statement applies equally to 2t kool-aiders as it does to 4t vamps.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say regular folks who prefer smokers do so because they like them, for a lot of reasons including emotional attachment.  I don't think it's that hard.

I'm sure it's record in revenue considering a 125 in 1996 was around $2900 bucks. You'd have to sell 4 to equal one 2023 450. Also Covid artificially pumped up the market which is falling rapidly. Go look at the used bike market.

motorcycle stats are not specific to dirt bikes. KTM sold 260,000 units in 2020 and 375,000 in 2021. Those come from KTM's investor resources. Yamaha investor resources show they have increased sales by 38% since 2017 and 24% from 2018. These are stats from the actual manufacture that prove youre wrong lol

I think youre just one of those "everything was better in my day" types.

KTM and Yamaha do not "sell out" of two strokes each year either. Plenty of 2022 left overs still for sale. You just making shit up as you go lol

You’re in Cali I see, Power motorsports in Oregon has 23’ YZ250’s for $7,500 OTD

Yeah and thats the entire point of this discussion numb nuts lol Hearing from others on their viewpoints on 2 strokes. You know, talking moto with other moto people.

Unlike most of you guys, I am open to changing my opinion like I have admitted in this thread. Multiple times.

not sure what your issue with that is unless youre just always kinda miserable lol

Not a trophy bike, but I feel you. I lusted after cone pipes when I was young and couldn't afford it. Had to have one.

Other than sound, they kind of suck. I recently bought a 250 2 stroke and had a newer 450. 2 stroke was fun for about 2 weeks and for DITD. Aside from that, less power, harder to ride, more arm pump.

2 strokes have been glorified to be better than they really are.

XC2 class in GNCC allows 250 4t or 2t but the factory teams run the 4t even KTM.

You're the miserable twit stirring shit because that's more fun for you than bikes.

There's a couple recent 2023 noobs who should STFU.

Trystan Hart playing the smoker like a  Stradivarius.  This is 12 minutes of pure bliss imo.  I have no horse in this debate, but I am partial to 2 strokes.

Horses for courses. E3 allows unlimited capacity 2 and 4 strokes, and most riders use 300 2 strokes. Trials still seems to be split.

I grew up on 2 strokes and they absolutely in my opinion develop a better rider growing up.  We can chase that around all day. 4 strokes are awesome and I have owned plenty. Having just put a 2024 KTM 300sx in my stable, I couldn't be happier. 2 strokes are fun, bottom line, even for a 60 year old. Current 2 stroke technology is awesome thanks to KTM and this bike is amazing, just fun to ride, and I enjoy riding something totally opposite to my 2021 Husky 450 which I also love. Saul Good man.

The 250 class in Canada has been equal displacement for a while and none of the “factory” teams are running 2 strokes. Sounded like KTM was going to field one but they could get it to stay together reliably enough to make it through the day and be competitive with the 4 strokes. Would have been interesting to see because Benoit is fast so it would have shown how they truly compare with a good rider.

Pros: Suits a riding style of making the engine work. Easy maintenance if you enjoy it/can make it cheap. Great sound if ridden properly. Good for annoying environmentalists (if you enjoy that)

Cons: Doesn't suit a riding of not making the engine work. A lot of maintenance if you don't enjoy it. Not a great sound if ridden poorly. Not as good for the environment (if you value that)

If the pros out weigh the cons, get a 2 stroke. If the cons outweigh the pros, get a 4 stroke. If you want to try something outside the norm, get an electric.

He originally stated that Yamaha and KTM 2 strokes don't sell out every year and that it's quite easy to find roll over's from 2022 rather easily at dealerships.

Didn't he already win a title up there on a 250 two stroke a few years ago?

If I remember correctly, he swapped between the 2 that season depending on track. I think they changed the rules after that where you couldn’t change back and forth throughout the season.

Bring that 450 up to Idaho. The 450 will overheat and stall out on every ledge. Watch Erzberg.  Not one 4 stroke got to the finish line. Racing was much closer on 2 strokes in SX and MX. Not as many riders got injured either.  A simple porting job and a pipe was way cheaper than a 40k 250 4 stroke engine job. E bikes will wipe out 4 strokes within 5 years.  Easier to ride an e bike than a 4 stroke and won't overheat.  2 strokes will still be around.

I sold a YZ250 smoker and bought my first four stroke. 2006 KTM 450XC. After the first ride I would have sold the 4 stroke and bought another two stroke if I didn’t know my (then) wife would have lost her mind! Took 6 months and some money to get the KTM working good, but I still miss the YZ, it WAS amazing.

That was 2005. I don’t have that wife anymore but I do still have that 4 stroke KTM as a backup.
